hmm... that colour doesn't work for me either but that could just be the photos.

I also find that painting the main dial surround throws the balance off. Having the doors and centre console done works nicely as it is all symmetrical. Personally I think it would have been better to leave the main dial surround black but put white dials in.

G1 - It all comes down to personal preference. I was just so sick of the all black interior. As for the finish what you see is pretty much what it looks like. Spatic (my flatmate) used a bit of cut and polish on his which gave it a real gloss finish, I havent done that to mine as yet and I have a more matt look. I went through a phase of hating that colour after I did it. But you could change it a hundred times and still not be satisfied, in the end I figred stuff it and since Ive been quite happy with it.

Rushi - I like your point on the symetrical angle. I did all the panels at once so I didnt get to see what that would have looked like. Might even sand it back and check it out one day.

Hi Beme007 - Those photos are hosted by my machine at home which drops out every now and again Im in the process of getting a folder in the gallery section which should elimintate that. Keep checking they come up themselves sooner or later. Same deal with flatmates photos on his post.

Did you have to sand it down much?
And any plastic primer would work fine?

I can't seem to find kashmir spray paint any where....

Might have to go into either repco or bunnings on the weekend...

Fto12345 - Just gave all parts a good rub with turps to get rid of any armorall/hand grease etc and then a light sand. Pretty easy grab your cup holder (pulls straight out) and start there. Once you do that you wont be able to stop yourself

Mine is a red car as well...
But I have a white gear boot and break boot.

So a whitish colour looks good for me...

So is that kashmir a brand or a colour?

If it's a brand then I still haven't found one.

But if it's a colour, I still haven't found one!!!

Am looking still though....but there isn't any place much in Sydney city!!!

And what about the primer? is it a same brand or just an plastic primer will do?

Also, all of these are all spray cans right?
No spray guns needed?

Hi FTO12345 - Sorry if I havent been answering your questions. haha. Ok thats kashmir pearl COLOUR!! from supercheap auto they have a rack of different spray cans and that was just one of the colours, if you have one of those stores near you your set. The brand is powerplus spray and brush system touch up paint. Have you thought about plain white? I cant remember who did it but they had white (leather) and black interior (on a orange fto) looked awesome. Im no expert but Im sure any plastic primer would be fine. Just spray cans no guns or anything. The cool thing is if you stuff it up its just a matter of sanding back and trying again. The spray from those cans can sometimes spurt out blobs of paint which need to be sanded and reapplied.

Looks like a job well done. Is it just me or does it look odd with the ashtray unpainted when the cig lighter surround has been done? Probably is just me as I am very fussy and pedantic regarding my FTO

How exactly did you guys do it?

Did you sand your console with sandpaper? What type? Very harshly? Only a little?

Then you applied plastic primmer?

and then sprayed it, with one of those spray cans avaliable from supercheap?

Ok Guni I think Ive said it before but here goes light sand with the lightest stuff you can get (your just tryin to get rid of oil/armorall thats on there) then prime it and then spray it. Leave it to dry takes about 5 mins spray again and continue untill your happy with the finish. All spray including primer should be light, its easy to get greedy when spraying but take it easy.

Elusion - We used a different method as described in our posts but Id recomend ruchis becuase its easier. as for the needles use a directional led and angle it (facing the needle from underenath the deal) untill it shines through the needle and hot glue that baby in place....Done....Its fiddly and u get slightly different look on each needle including when the needles move the intensity changes but I like that effect.

can someone tell me how to paint the centre console?
do u rip it out and paint it or paint it while its still attached?
if to take it off..can someone tell me how???
and to mask them...wats the best way to mask it???

Here you go mate, I wrote a basic one for removing center console earlier

You really have to remove it when you spray the console, or all the paint dust will go everywhere, unless you going mask every single part of the inside of your car, plus it will stink too which cause a safety hazard.

Depends on which part of the console you painting, you will need different type of paint, eg soft plastic will stretch under heat, so you will need paint that are design for soft plastic/rubber, the surrounding around the two gauges are soft plastic/rubber. I don't know where you can go in Syd, in Melb thereâ€™s a place call "Paint Mobile" where they sell any type of paint to suit. Make sure you clean the console with pure alcohol (any type), & sand it back with very very fine sand paper to lose the glossy surface, so the paint sticks on better.

Personally I just take the whole center console out & get the panel beater to 2 pac it, less hassle, & guaranty a long lasting finish. But that just me, I've done lots of center console & other bit & pieces for my other cars before, & Iâ€™m waaaayyyyyy tooo lazy to spend my time on it these days ehehehe

i have some problems
when i try to remove the bottom part of the centre console ( the ones near the gearbox) i find that when i remove it it scratches the bottom part of the aircon unit becoz of the 2 plugs and also i dont noe how to remove the wires on the cig lighter
anyone can help me???

The Cig lighter plugs came straight out for me, i hope yours not glued in, as i've seen it happen.

I've removed mine bottom section of the centre console many times, as i keep changing head units. You just have to angle it right so it won't scratch the air con unit.

Anyway i go home & have a look at my cig lighter & post up some idea for you tomorrow, provide i'm not home too late.
