Alarms?!?!!?!?!?!?!

Post by custommodz »

Hello all,

Did loads of work to my car over the weekend, all tappets changed in 4.5 hours (using only two screwdrivers), new lambda sensor as the other felt knackered, changed heater matrix without degassing aircon. Very proud of myself.

Did notice something funny though - passenger door locks by the central locking and unlocks with the key, but won't lock, not sure what the fault here is. Also when the dashboard was out, i noticed that the previous owner had installed an alarm - badly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on an alarm to buy, found a mongoose m80g for $200 which seems to do all i want, is this insurance recognised? Im more than happy to install it as i can just take the dash out again to hid everything.

I got a Mongoose M80 on my car... I don't know anything much about car alarms but it seems pretty decent.

TBH.. what the hell is an alarm gonna do for you? If your not near the car.. its useless, unless it has a 3point immobilizer - even still they probably could steal it if they really wanted.
And when you are near the car, park it in a secure area.- Should be doing this anyway...

completely agree with this.

imo if you park your car on the road you deserve to get it stolen or at least damaged.

i really hope one day a kid walks through my street one day with a key and paint etc and just fucks up every car that is parked on the road.
imo there is no excuse to ever park your car on the curb out the front of your house. thats what driveways, carports, garages and front lawns are for.

my street is a pretty windy hill though and when there are cars parked either side of the road it makes you have to be more cautious going up and down so thats probably why i get pissed about it

Some insurance companies may not pay out claims related to theft if they find out your alarm wasn't installed by a professional, it might pay to check with your insurance company first, or at least make sure they don't find out :P

disagree. sorry bro.
1. Driveway - mine is occupied by our 2 cars
2. Carports - We don't have one!
3. Garages - well we kind of turned it into a mini cinema
4. Front Lawns - Used to be parked there but as i got in my car one morning, the council officer told me i would get fined. That area is public/council property.

I do not have a choice but to park on the kerb in front of my house! Unless of course i take the single visitor parking nearby which is almost always occupied!

But i should have better parking accomodation in my next house though.

I pretty much wanted one cause i can only park my car on a service road at the moment (as i currently dont have anywhere to live and staying with friends - seeing as ive only been in Aus for 6 weeks).

Also im a firm believer that most theives - although might steal stuff from your car, an alarm screaming at 120db would put some people off from driving away in it. Wanted it for the remote central locking again, remote boot release and possibly windows and mirrors.
imo if you park your car on the road you deserve to get it stolen or at least damaged.

Seems a little flippant - i park my car near to friends houses' in Hawthorn and they only have street space. Not everyone in this world can park their car safely 100% of the time.

Your an absolute idiot.

So how is the little terd that walks past cars, vandalising them, going to know whether the car is someone seeing their mate or the persons own house.

I cant wait till happens to you..... and it will happen.

You're f**king kidding me right?
In my house we have 4 cars. 2 fit in the garage 1 fits in the driveway. But it would be stupid to even keep 1 in the driveway as we all constantly go out etc. and moving the cars all the time is just stupid. There is no room on the front lawn so 2 of the cars need to be parked in the street. I'm sure there are lots and lots and lots of people in the same situation.

Anyone else got GPS tracking? I'm going to get it for when I get a proper expensive sports car. Use it at work and it's great

Back to helping you your prob with door is the motor is stuffed just get a generic one about $15 really easy to install and will fix your issue. As for alarm well that up to you which you need and how do you know previous alarm was badly installed? best policy is a good insurance company and and manual kill switch because if they want to steal your car its gonna happen

In all honesty, My insurance company said they would not insure my car if i didnt have an immobilizer also getting a 3point one put down the price by a tiny bit (Just Cars) And im real happy to have my car with an alarm.. Do you know how often cars get broken into during the night? during the time at which your at work? it happens all too often, and if its happening in a car park or something like that it ALWAYS draws attention to the car when a car alarm goes off.. Im more than happy to have a huge amount of attention drawn to my car when the alarm goes off
