My cig lighter works no more. I read a few other threads and decided to check the fuse first. When I opened the fuse box lid (under the steering wheel to the right side), it was empty. I have seen some fuse box pics and they are usually filled with fuses.
The fuse box had fuses on its outer sides rather than inside. Is this a different kind of fuse box or should i fill it up with new fuses? ( I will try to post a pic soon).
FTO GR 1996.
With the cigarette lighter wiring, I have a black connector (black wire) and a white connector(blue/white wire). Which is +ve and which one is ground?
You should not be doing any electrical work without a test light or a mulitmeter.
Test light's are about $10 no excuse to not get one

I used a multimeter. Placed the red lead on black connector and the black lead on the white connector. I got a reading of 14v initially and on the second attempt i got no reading. I am confused with the fuse box being empty?

Ok when checking volt, just earth the black wire on metal part of the car that is connected to the chassis. The ignition key is a good spot as you can actually hook the probe onto the hole in the key.
Then use the positive probe to check both wires. One will have power, one wont.
HTH
PS. what do you mean fuse box empty. If it was completely empty the car would not start.

When I opened the fuse box lid (beneath the driver side foot well). I did not see any fuses in there. Yeah, i thought the same that the vehicle would have electrical issues without any fuses. I am at work now. Will grab a pic in evening and post it here for clarity...
Doh... sorry guys..the fuses showed up when i looked in some light...
checked the voltage as suggested..no voltage..suscpecting multimeter got fried as the red wire of multimeter was hot during testing last night...will check with a new test light..
yeh my lighter doesnt work either? although if i have this sick light thing there instead that is like a mini torch that gets recharged by the lighter socket thing
pretty amazing
