Reasonable Price? $2k for clutch.
well somehow my clutch burnt out and according to the dealer i need to replace my clutch kit and machine flywheel.
i've got an invoice for $1310 (70 for flywheel, 360 for clutch kit but like $880 for labour) but have been able to talk it down to $1000, i still dont think its worth it but i was wondering if you guys thought the same.
i can prob go elsewhere but would need to get my car towed and risk voiding my warranty.

Pricey....
Last one I had done for me was $700.
Mind you, the $360 they've got you down for the clutch kit itself is actually a very good price. Its the labour thats killin' it.

$880 could be a reasonable price, especially for in sydney. Best thing to do would be to look around and get some more quotes.
I just replaced my clutch 2 weeks ago and i wouldnt say it was an easy job, i would charge $880 to do it

im not too sure what clutch kit, but his excuse was that their mechanic is contracted or w/e and it'll take like 2 days to fix, being an fto and all.

Nup, just the cross member (front to rear one) & box. You just gotta brace up other end of the engine, because once the crossmember & box are out, you've only got 1 mount left holding the motor on the timing belt end.

Re: Reasonable Price? $2k for clutch.
pfft .. mine was $550 labour & it's a little bit harder than a standard FTO .. Joe & Rik's said they normally charge $300-350 labour for clutch replacement (although I can't say I'm exactly happy with their workmanship lately)
I wouldn't go above $400 for labour for the job on a standard FTO, but if I were you, I would get a complete overhaul done - new clutch cylinders, excedy kit, decent gearbox oil, etc etc
