Voltage drop to starter

Hey guys,

Car isnt starting at the moment... I thought it was the stater motor but when I took it in to get it reconditioned, he said the whole thing looked fine, and put it on the test bench, and it was spot on...

The only explanation is voltage drop...

Now my battery did go flat, so I tried jump starting off my other car.... still the same tick tick tick tick noise from it...

I've since charged the battery and its still doing the same thing.

any suggestions?

Check voltage on the starter motor with a multi meter.

You could have a bad earth as well.

Ticking usually indicates battery being the culprit

I have this intermittently Sam. I stripped out and cleaned all of the earth leads, the chassis one under the air filter was particularly corroded, but then again this is Scotland, where it is a bit wetter and saltier

This helped a bit then it started happening again but only after it has been wet. I suspect I have a dodgy solenoid and when it is damp it is not getting a good contact. This would explain the voltage drop but I haven't got round to checking it yet. I intend to just put a multimeter over the big terminals and check the solenoid by connecting it to the battery.

So maybe your starter is fine but the solenoid is playing up.

the first thing i did when i got my car was upgraded the grounds havent upgraded alt to battery yet though will when i deside to install amps again hope you sort this issue out
