What's your opinion?

Post by Shhtuart »

I've currently got my mechanic looking for a 5spd LSD transmission for my GPvR but a week later and still no success.

Would it be more sensible to get my old one reconditioned or to wait it out to see if my mechanic can source the transmission?

If i was to get my current transmission reconditioned, what price would i be looking at?

Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not an easy one to find. I'd be reconditioning it. Its probably just a shot torque converter.

You would probably have more luck sourcing your own one. Mechanics (generally speaking) dont have the time or patience to spend searching for a part. Usually they will ring a wrecker or too and if no luck, say that there are none in the country.

If you dont have the time either get yours recond.

The chances of finding a 5 speed tip are really slim. Youd have more luck sourcing a manual (and they arent that common). Thought of doing a manual conversion.....

I have very little experience in manual and from what I've read i don't think it would be worth the hassle or the money.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that they find one, but I won't get my hopes up :(

Any rough estimates for the reco cost? (Just so I don't pay through my teeth) :|

Well, the guys at the transmission shop say the auto box is in "reasonable" condition for its age but it isn't the reason for the shuddering.

It turns out that the right side driveshaft was too short

& the end was almost completely chewed off which explains why it got progressively worse over a couple of days.

If Im not mistaken, steve (bushido) had some sort of discrepancy regarding the length of the driveshaft on his fto when he put a new gearbox in, going from tip ---> manual meant that he needed a different driveshaft as the tip one wasnt going to fit properly??? Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong
