Recommend good mechanic in Brisbane

Post by phunkydude »

Hi there,

I just bought an FTO Mivec version, and there'r problems on it.
It got clicking noise at all revs range even idling.
and the clicking tempo increases with revs.

Does that confirms as tappets problem?

Went to 2 mechanics, one quote $1000 for tappets which is BS to me.
Another one, quote $500 for replacing all 24 tappets. Which again sounds BS to me, afaik 6a12 Mivec only have 12 hydraulic lifters and the other 12 are adjustable tappets.

I need someone to recommend me a good mechanic that knows 6a12G very well. THanks.

Definitely Joe n Riks man, they are down at southport at the goldy but they know there sh*t with the 6A12, when my gearbox died, My mechanic quoted me 1200-2500. Where as Joe n Riks quoted 500-1000 and it was 970 So all sweet. They have worked on MANY FTO's and most of us Brisbane people take their car's down their because it's all we trust.

Will call them up & find a day get down to coast & hope to get everything fixed on a single trip.

Thanks.

In the meantime, any other alternative options nearer to brissy?

OMG yess the Jap import serivce centers/ sales they basically think us/you are dumb S#@ts and think we are endless money pitts :( from my expierence of having dealt with upset customers who have been to these service workshops and then ended up at the dealership i worked at for 5 years :P so we felt ablidged in a way to make sure they had the right service and work carried out :) happy again.

Enough of that, Joe and ricks is a very repitable business, but i mean there are an endless amount of Workshops in your Brisbane Metro area :) since i live on the Southside myself, being a Mechanic i tend to do most of my own work myself unless of course its a rebuild engine/gearbox, recond A/C, Alt, starter ect. things i dont have the equipment for.

Have you already had a quote on whats wrong with your car or you just know there are things wrong with the old girl :P

Cheers Damian.

Hey mate,

I'm at Kangaroo Point .. I don't mind checking out your car to see whats wrong with it .. just send me a PM

You're not in Bell / Sinclair st by any chance are you?

As for workshops, there are none in Brissy that I know of .. the only ones I trust to work on my car & not rip me off are Joe & Riks .. definitely worth it to take your car down ..

..they've always offered to give me a lift to the nearest train station in case I needed it, though I've always had someone to give me a lift back.

i took my car into Joe & Ricks to fit my engine and although they did a good job it was a 12 month process.

I thought all MIVEC tappets were adjustable 8O

IF that isnt the case, sorry :)

Nah, there's 12 hydraulic lifters that hold the high range rocker arms on the Mivec cam lobes when not in use.
