oil leak

Post by lolo888 »

HI All,

Im not much of a grease monkey, i've found that my car is leaking oil.
Not sure if it's always when the engine is warm/hot or only after a bit of a spirited run.

There's always the smell of burning oil (as if it was spilt on the manifold), but definately some leakage as now shown via my driveway. Looking from the top of the engine, I can't see any oil leaking from any of the seals etc.

I will try and jack up my car tomorrow, any suggestions as to what/where i should be looking? All I can think of was to ensure the sump plug was on tightly.

Thanks.

If theres nothing obvious on top then look at the subframe rail that runs under the engine. If this is covered in gunk then it could be your crank shaft oil seal. This can allow oil to run back and onto the exhaust which will give the burning smell.

yip also simple as oil filter not sealed great this also dips onto front of why pipe.
try cleaning motor with degreaser than running it so you can trace back the leak easily
