They shouldnt complain, A new one from Mitsubishi Aust will set them back $450 odd. The ones I get are EXACTLY the same, just from Japan without the grey import markup

Hmmm, have always wondered what the car makers are trying to acheive with their grey import taxes.
I could understand them covering their extra costs to source from Japan, but $450 for a piece of plastic, it's almost like Mitsubishi are trying to punish us for liking their cars...
Anyway just my thought of the day.

Nah dude, I really don't think it's about it getting old and fragile (in my experience anyway). It's more about knowing where the clip points are, and knowing how to take it in or out gently. Oh, and also... once you've snapped one of 'em, you know not to keep taking it out and putting it back in unless you really really have to!

You are better off with a new one. I have broken 2 2nd hand ones now. It doesnt matter how careful you are, sooner or later you run out of luck. The new ones arent brittle. I guess if you tried hard enough you could break one, but the older ones will break if you sneeze.

I've had conversations with the head of Mitsi parts about it in the past. The whole idea is to stop people buying grey imports in the first place as opposed to buying a locally produced vehicles.nicholas wrote:Hmmm, have always wondered what the car makers are trying to acheive with their grey import taxes.

I told him he was a moron, there are thousands of these cars on the road & people are going to buy them regardless - so in essecence, you've just cut your market down by xxxx number of vehicles that you could be suppling parts for. He then got all high & mighty on me, annoyed with grey importers etc. I then shut him up by telling him we get everything from Mitsi Japan for half the cost

Hopefully 1 day he'll either retire or move into another position so's to give someone with half a brain the position.

Good points Ben. Interesting though that Mitsu are definitely not the only one to charge grey import tax though right?
I can understand the perceived threat grey imports put onto locally available options, but personally I have NO brand loyalty and would NEVER buy a car just because of its badge. So if Mitsubishi thinks that had I not been able to source an FTO, I would happily have bought a sh*tty Mirage / Lancer / Magna they are sorely mistaken lol.
Haha having said that I would never buy a car based on it's badge, I should point out that I would definitely NOT buy a car based on its badge (yes that means you Kia, Daewoo, Ssang Yong et. al.)
