URGENT: Lost only set of FTO Keys
Hey im new to this club but have an urgent query and was hoping i could get some assistance.I searched the forums but couldnt find what i was looking for.
The following is an email i sent to Mitsubishi Aus, with no luck.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated =]
Hello,
I have lost the only set of keys to my 1995 Mitsubishi FTO.
I have made several calls and obtained some information though require further assistance and require information from Mitsubishi Japan.
VIN: 6U9000DE3A0021720
I require a new key so i can enter and start my car.
I contacted one of the Misubishi Dealers.
They said that they can only order a Key with a barrell.
This will then need to be fitted by their service department.
They then assumed that the 1995 FTO has a transponder? Does anybody know for sure?
The problem then is that they require a Security number to deactivate the immobilizer. I have been informed that this is a 4 digit number which is will be the same for all Mitsubishi FTO's.
What i require is this 4 digit number.
Ideally i would like a key to be sent out to me from japan that will be able to start the ignition without all the additional mucking around, however i do not speak Japanese, nor do i know how to get in touch with the Japanese head office. I have been informed that with the VIN Mitsubishi Japan should be able to provide me with a key that will be start the ignition without having to replace the barrell.
Could you please contact me on 0421025458 or reply with the required information as soon as possible.
The cheapest and easiest solution would be if you could get in touch with Mitsubishi Japan and they send out a key which matches that VIN.
If not, i require the 4 digit security code to reset the engine immobilizer- as mentioned above, i have been this is generic for all Mitsubishi FTO's.
Also if possible i would like an email address which corresponds to Mitsubishi Japan, so i can continue my own inquiries.
Note: My car is parked in an unsecured location thus if you could attend to this matter as soon as possible this would be greatly appreciated.
Yours thankfully,
Chris

Now for your Question, the best thing I can sugest to you is to take out the ignition barell and look for a code on it then take that to a locksmith and see if they have that code in there books, if they do then they can cut you a new key.
If that brings no luck then you would be best getting a new lock set.

Have you tried emailing Mitsubishi Japan. I'm sure they have people who speak English, I'd even try giving them a call direct, I'm sure you'll find someone who speaks English and can help. Changing all the locks is gonna be a pita!
Also are you in NRMA? I'm sure they'd be able to get you into the car, then you could hotwire it to start it so you can move it home, or have it towed (again if you're in NRMA this shouldn't cost you anything, depending on how far the car is from your home).

Sounds like the easiest (most likely most expensive solution) would be to get a whole new lock set and ignition barrel with new keys.
I doubt you'll be sent a key to fit your lock from Mitsubishi, I find it hard to believe they have a large database of every key profile of every Mitsubishi vehicle made.

Transponder keys have actually been used in most new cars since 2000, purpose for them is to stop people from duplicating onto a normal key by installing a chip which must be read before the lock or ignition barrel can be turned.AJ wrote:transponder? That's for aircraft.
First thing I can tell you is that the FTO's do not use transponder keys. Fortunate for you as getting a new transponder key can cost from $200 to $2000 (mercedes keys). I know this because i cut myself just a normal key and it opened all doors and turned the ignition with no problems ...
Im pretty sure a mitsubishi dealer will be able to cut you a new key, all you need to tell them is your VIN number and give proof that you own the car...
If you do however need a locksmith to change over the locks and ignition barrel then let me know and I will give you some advice on good locksmiths as i work in the locksmith hardware import industry

I could be wrong, but believe the factory immobiliser and transponder system is killed when imported?
Reason I say, is I have a useless box which I know a few FTOs have that are linked to the barrel, and doors, and ecu, but does nothing, seems to be over-ridden.
Key I have is a normal non transponder type key. 97 facelift gpx.
