17 inch wheels

Post by YYgirl »

Hey guys,
i got some querys about fitting 17inch wheels into my GR, the tyre shop told me to fit 215,45,17s and the wheel is 17x7, but i saw it here that with 17x7, i should fit 215,40,17s. Whats the go?

The tyre shop told me that with 215,40,17 i might get higher revs on the highway??? i'm really confused, because i have bought the rims already but dont know what tyre to fit.

Thanks!

As far as I know, the proper tyre size for 17x7 rims is 215/45ZR17. I'm getting them myself in a couple of weeks. You don't need 215/40ZR17 as they are too low a profile with not much rubber.

Hahahaha that is so funny, better high rev on freeway! Thats the worse sells speech i've ever heard!

Well i know some brand don't carry 215/45/R17, so some tyres dealer will sells 215/40/R17 or 215/50/R17 instead, & offen sell the brand which give them better profit 2!

both 215/40 and 215/45 are ok

both will have your speedo reading slightly off but this error is very marginal..

215/40 will have your speedo reading slightly more than actual speed
215/45 will have your speedo reading slightly under actual speed

read bottom of

you'll see what i mean

Thanks guys! maybe i will get the 215/45/17. Can I ask what tyres you guys have got on? It might look better with 215/40/17, but that's really low profile isn't it? and with higher revs on freeway would waste more petrol wouldn't it? I travel on highway quite often.

to a certain extent, the saleperson is right... a 40-series profile tyre will result in a very slightly higher RPM (prob by around 100-150rpms at best) at cruising speeds just very slightly higher because of decreased rolling diameter (as opposed to the 45-series profile)

either way, there's no real noticeable difference on the road whether you choose 45 or 40-series profile.
