+1 and the amount of fuel it will save you is negligible.
Notice how all the car manufacturers are working their buts off to bring down fuel consumption figures for their cars? Also notice that none of them have resorted to having their cars shift into neutral when they're going down a hill? 'Nuff said.

actualy jeremy clarkson god of all things motor sed that angel gear (neutral ) only works on older non EFI engines, and in fact uses more fuel as the EFI computer cuts fuel to the engine when its in gear and the excelerator is not depressed. but when in neutral it needs a little bit fuel to keep the engine ticking over.

Lmao, hey i was just wondering, when you are gear braking down a hill or something, and your at 3000 revs or whatevs, is that using as much fuel as u would be using if driving normally at 3000 revs? ..Supplanter wrote:Buy a bicycle, no wait, just stay home.SchumieFan wrote:lolI8A4RE wrote:Keep doing it........we need spare parts
youll save even more fuel if you just switch the car off when your going down hills

... now just to find the link to his Darwin nomination...
Interesting question about fuel consumption of 3000rpm engine braking vs 3000rpm accelerating... I always thought that it would be using much less petrol, but last time I said that on here I got shot down. Not sure if anyone presented any convincing sources though...

i dont think its the amount of revs that make the difference in fuel consumption, i mean, in 2nd gear youd be using more fuel from a standing start to bring the car upto 3000 revs than you would if you were in 1st gear... make sense?
dunno if it does but it seems reasonable to me, all about air/fuel mix

Same but arn't the brakes powered aswell? so no braking either? I tihnk you have one hit on them, then they go hard, I dunno about the FTO but for my old car anyway.SchumieFan wrote:by the by, whilst switched off you can still steer my car, the wheel does not lock (yeah but no power steering)
not that its a good idea!
Id say it would be the same
