ill second this one, i wasnt too fussed on FTOs, i found a cheap one, drove it and damn near sh*t myself cause of how well it went, i then found one a bit more decent ... not to mention manual ... and bought it straight up, theyre awsome to put it simply, i LOVE my fto and am now an absolute nut about them :) .... slow? lol no chance, i raced an R33 GTS-T and tied with him
i agree! i left a white r33 GTS-T at lights not so long ago! had the BOV, waste gate going off at the lights and everything! it was fun!the reaction on their faces are priceless! true kodak moment

Forgot to mention to you guys i can only drive auto -_- haha.. sorry about not mentioning it, i only got my auto license. I live in Western Sydney.. about 5 minutes from Bonnyrigg. Since it will be my first car.. auntie (one of my only supporters) definitely wants to get a professional inspection.. revs check all that stuff so i don't get a dud. This is when we go looking for one though hopefully in uni break..

and to FullTiltOrgasm. This is why i made this thread, to ask more knowledgable people about this car. This isn't about justifying who i am.. its about finding out if the car i love will ultimately be right for me. If its not, i will move on but i will always love the FTO

Pahaha, all these "i beat a sky.line in my fto" comments are hilarious..... You's should go buy a falcodore with that mentality...

On topic though
The fto is a great car and i can't believe how cheap they are today for what you get. It's a real fun car to drive, wouldn't say it's slow by any means but its not fast. The word zippy best describes it, lol. Cornering and handling is awesome, although the car starts to shake around 150km/hr, lol. Reliability comes down to how it's been taken care of currently and in the past, much like any other used car. I paid extra and bought mine with 40,000kms on it and only had to change a belt in 25,000kms. Go for a ride in one and make your mind up. For what you're after though, an fto would suit nicely.

Most people in this thread have told me to first ride in one before forming an opinion.. i will do that and to goldwayne, i will personal message you within the next 2 weeks or so... would love to be in one. or drive one lol (is yours auto lol?) Whenever we do it, i'll bring a friend along because they are also interested in how the car goes as well.

I had a long talk to my dad about this and i have told him about what you guys have said about this car. He is a bit wary of the bias but he does understand the fact that he has never driven one and he can't deny the awards this car has won and also the reliability that many of you have spoken about. There is one thing bothering him though. FTO Parts. I do not know much about this myself.. i did look around in the forum and i got to a thread about 'complte FTO' parts. But still i have no idea about what most of these things are.

Dad said someone damanged his side mirrors and his driver side door on his Camry and within 2 weeks it was fixed and the repairer mentioned parts were plentiful and also cheap for our family car. If ever i get an FTO and someone messes up a part of my car.. Or even simply replacing parts inside the engine, will i be able to find these things? he said there probably will be parts out there..BUT he thinks.. FTO parts will be expensive since its a 10+ year old car whose last production was in 2000. Once again.. what do you guys think of my dads concern about the parts?

Other than that.. thats the only obstacle that my dad has with accepting this car so far...!as long as my dad is for it its allll good!

In terms of parts, we often source our parts from dstocks (member on the forum), camskills, kempys, ebay, fto wrecks, other uk/nz based online stores, etc. Between all these various sources of parts you can pretty much get anything you need.

Heres an idication - side mirrors. I have at least one of each side. These are the motorised fold in ones. Typically sell them for about $75 each. Parts generally arent that bad. I can get new and used parts from several places. Having said that, there are lots of other options as well.

hmmmm, well maybe 1 or 5. I can get any new part from Japan. Sometimes they are a little expensive though. Also can buy off Yahoo Japan (like ebay - 80 pages of FTO stuff) Ive wrecked about 6 or 7 FTO's now as well. So have a few spares lying about. As long as you you ask via the club someone can generally help you out. If not me then someone else.

I have had my FTO for 4 years now, I can honestly say hand to my heart have not had ONE mechanical problem with it. The only issue I currently have is because it gets left out in sun, it has developed white patches on the roof, but given the age of the car it is in great condition. The A/C needs regassing too but that's with any car over such a long period of time.

I have considered every now and then trying for a different Jap car...but everytime I keep coming back to the FTO. I just wish I had the time to spend on it to make it look super. Also this is my daily driver. Bought it at around 80,000km. It's now up to 182,000. This car still gives me great satisfaction after giving it a wash and wax and the heads it turns. Even more when I open her up just a bit for MIVEC to suggest its presence through the HKS exhaust.

For a V6 it is very economical. It is 150kw. It's like anything, spend the money and time to tune it and you will have something that can beat WRX's. I am rather pure about my vehicle and keep it N/A.

Looks are a love or hate thing. I personally love it. I still remember the first time I saw it in the sales yard at parra road. I was excited. It hasn't really died off. WRX/Evo/GT-R bore me to be honest with you in their looks. It doesn't take a lot to make the FTO even more amazing than what it already is! Think Lambo doors, angel headlights. :D

      Hi mate and fto friends

I've had my FTO since 2005, which is over 4 years now and I have no real issue with it in that time. Ive driven it as a daily, my wife has driven it as a daily and I can say we have maintained it well had had no issues.

For about 10k you cant go wrong however I would say look around for a good facelift or VR model or one with a few mods to save yourself some cash in the medium term.

Although the FTO is not the fastest, its not the slowest and I have a tip and find that it takes off just fine....

The worst - or best - thing about the FTO is modifications are not as easy, generally there is not much for the 6a12 NA motor, however this is not a bad thing overall as tis will save you some cash - or make you go broke when you go fully sick but any car will do that.

With some good wheels, lowered and the facelift front bar you will have yourself a nice looking car for not much cash upfront.

As a point of intrest the only other car we could find that matches the sense of FTo style was the new Audi TTS - so we bought one! now thats a different story but it goes to show we find the FTO to be a great car overall.

I didnt think twice about getting an FTO for myself. I simply just loved the looks and went ahead with my hard earned money on it. So far no engine problems at all besides the usual maintanence stuff due to wear and tear. We have a trusty parts supplier (Dstocks) as well as other websites such as camskill for parts. Frankly I didnt think of parts when I bought my baby and only found out about this site much later while i needed help on my care. This site is 100% legit and the members are all out to help so don't you worry. I don't give two hoots about what other people think about jap imports or mitsubishis. At the end of the day its your car and you are driving it. Why bother what other people think? As long as you are happy is all that matters. I'm sure that all the members have given you all the help and info needed for you to make your choice. Having said that, if your dad is the one paying for the car take him along for the ride as well...maybe he might even love the car too. Lolz.

I've finally convinced my dad.. you know if i drive the car within the road rules, no speeding and just sticking to my lane, what wrong could happen? dads issue was the whole what if your car needs parts etc. it won't need parts if i don't drive stupid. wish me luck for tomorrow!

tell you dad parts are not that hard to get. overall when you use this forum to figure it out. Many parts are avaliable OEM as they are shared with some lancers of the same era. Generally i have had no issues with parts.
