Already been done in heaps of different types of cars but not really blowing people's skirts up yet. Once completed it does work out to be very cheap as no petrol and you literally plug the car into a power socket and let it charge overnight.

The car may gain extra weight though as you can shed weight from the exhaust system, fuel tank and engine but the battery cells if you want it to last say 300~500km per charge can weigh from 300~500kg. They are also massive so best scenario is you lose the back seats the mount the battery there then you would have effectively have a Midship mounted engine. :D

You can fit smaller setups in the boot but it depends on how much distance you want between charges.
youd also run into issues with weight distibution, youve taken the engine out and piled extra weight into the boot... and then you have no boot!

Removed ~60kgs petrol from the back too.
