My FTO requires attention!!

Post by arkoso »

Hey guys,

I'm the one who needed the selector cable - all good now found one over the weekend and had it put in today so all is well!

On the flip side, my center console was horribly brittle from overexposure to the sun through the sunroof and has unfortunately started to disintegrate. It cracked all over when the guy was trying to take it off (not his fault) so he glued it back together. When he installed in again surprise surprise it started to shatter again, and by the time I had returned from the garage the casing around the shifter had completely collapsed and fallen inside. Some pics:

As you can see its fallen apart pretty bad, its not even very old - like I said - just overexposure to the sun.

Anyone got one I can buy off them?

Whilst on the same subject, I haven't had a proper good look at it myself yet but what sort of screw or rivet would you need to fix this and whats the best way to do it?

Cheers heaps for the help guys. :D

I don't know how this popped out, I've never hit anything, just happened one day whilst driving I guess.

My centre console is breaking up too, I am thinking of fabricating a completely new dash out of brushed aluminium, aircraft styles. But it may end up looking sh*t, not sure what I will actually settle on yet. Perhaps taking a mould and using CF to fab a new one

Because these centre consoles are so prone to breakages and almost all the people here needing a new one at some stage, it wouldnt be a bad idea to look into group buying an alternative. If we could get a complete console to be manufactured in CF or at least a carbon fibre lookalike im sure they would sell like hotcakes.

Yeah absoloutly - I don't think there is any major rush but we should get it organised if we find someone who has them on offer or knows how to make them. Keep a look out eh. :D

I wouldn't mind looking at get the whole console replaced, but all I can find is the lower part that surrounds the gear stick. The top half that is made out of rubber no longer sits in place properly as the clips are broken, and my girlfriend took a chunk out of the rubber above the stereo unit with her nail the other day.

So yea, if anyone is interested in a group buy on something with that, I'd be in.

As for the rivet to hold your wheel liner in... best solution is.... cable ties!!!

No seriously, that's what i did, and it works a charm. They're only held in by plastic screws anyway...
