I'm wondering if this is legal to begin with.
Would anyone see any legal reason why you would need the p-r-n-d/+- shift plate on the tips.
The lights are included on the dash boards...
My thought is to remove the rubber surround, remove the gear shifter, remove the auto gear plate, and just run a leather boot shift over the top, similar to the Mercs.
Maybe have a smaller shifter on there to make it look like a quick shift...
Thoughts?

I think it would be a sick bird ... An ill eagle ... Yep, bad joke ...
But yeah, the high end cars that have that done, still have the gears written down as to what you put it in ... Now I know your speedo will tell you, but it is the same as when you fit an aftermarket gear knob ...
If the H pattern is gone, it is deemed un-roadworthy ... But, I would say chase it up, as that rule could have changed by now ...

if YOU can teach my fiance to drive manual, then I will convert the FTO to a decent 5 speed.
Until then, the only manual is my wagon.
It's more of a niche thing,
It's ugly seeing an auto shifter in a sports car and also, my particular shifter plate is ugly, has a burn mark in a corner, and also the -/+ platics were popped out, when the original owner switched the direction around. (down for up, up for down)
It's interesting noting about the H pattern.
Manuals dont have anything on the dash to show you where you are.
Italian sports car actually show the H visually at the levers base.
General manual cars have it printed on the knob.
So, with our cars, you are simply removing only one form of visual dislay, the dash still shows what your doing.
Which is what the mercs do.
