Just got off the phone with a guy in Unique Car Insurance. I am not looking to renew my insurance yet, just got their number and got a quote. I am with Just Car insurance at the moment and unique quoted me around $350 less than what i paid at Just car for the same details. I dont know much about them though, no idea on how good their service is.
www.uniquecar.com.au i beleive is their link.

I'm hunting for insurance too, but my prob is i'm under 21, so not many choices for me, but Just Cars, which is soo much.
But the best quotes so far, for me if i was 21, were from Young & Cool, and also Import Finance & Insurance.
Hey barfy, are u under 21? Cos if u r, then i might give MFP a try...

I tried MFP before trying Unique, apparently they arent taking any new customers on board, i cant remember the details. I tried Unique Insurance directly (which is the company barfy is insured through indirectly). I have no idea on age limits - i'm 25 so not sure about any younger. I also didnt realise they had zones where they would and would not insure...pays to shop around i guess.

hey guys,
just thought i'd butt in here.
FTO Club of Australia Insurance
I am in the process of working through a plan with Unique Car Insurance to offer Finanical Members (come 1 July, 2004) a discount on Car Insurance below that of what you would already be getting with Unique Car Insurance.
Unfortunately Members between the gong and Newcastle can not take advantage of this at the moment. Unique Car Insurance have however told me that they will be in the sydney area market by the end of the year.
i have also been told that if you want to go with Famous you should probably check out the WRX forums as there are issues with Famous not being a recognised insurer in Australia.

I've gone with Famous this time around. After receiving my renewal notice from Just Car Insurance for $1600+ with an excess of $1000, I was mighty peed off. I'm well over 25 with a clean driving record and 60% ncd. Anyway Famous gave me insurance for $850.00 plus waived the $1000 excess down to $500 except in the case of theft. The only stippulation is the car must have a 3 point imobiliser. I read their news letter relating to the fact that they are underwritten by a foreign insurance company and are not covered by the Australian Insurance watchdog - mind you that did bugger all in the case of HIH!!! - but you do still have recourse if there is a problem which is all explained in the newsletter.
Anyway thats the way I have gone - would be interested if anyone has any claims experience with Famous that they could share...

I just called up Young&Cool and they quoted me double the premium I pay at Just Cars but only $400 excess if I do a safe driving course (compared to $1050 at Just Cars).
I've been looking for Famous contact number but all I can find is a mobile phone number in the White Pages which diverts me to voicemail. Can somebody please give me their number? Do they insure Vic drivers?

I thought about going the 3rd party option this time around to save a little extra cash. On that same day that i was thinking about that option a workmate of mine was telling me a recent story of how his girlfriend had a car accident. She was impatient with the heavy traffic and wanted to turn into a driveway on the right hand side of the road about 50m up the road. She decided to use the wrong side of the road as there was no cars and a bloke in his RX7 came out from a sidestreet on the left (the traffic let him through) she had no insurance at all.
If the governments made 3rd party property a compulsory insurance, there would probably be less need for comprehensive insurance..but doubt that will ever happen. I doubt i will drop back to 3rd party only as there are a lot of people cruisin around without insurance, and a lot of them probably wont have money to pay you if they damage your car.
