NEED HELP! Engine probs...
I own a 2.0L V6 Mivec Tiptronic
GPX model, my engine keeps revving high and low. This happens frequently but sometimes disappears for awhile. I have changed the idle control valve TWICE! The car seems to go ok for a while but then it begins to bounce, this problem is dangerous cause at times when i'm stopped at lights the problem seems to over right the brakes and the car jolts forward.
After 6months of this on and off i'm almost ready to give up!!
Has anyone ever experienced this? I need help because the mechanics keep stuffing around and my poor baby is still unwell after so long!

You've had the valve replaced twice... maybe it isnt the prob. Cars are overall simple things - air plus fuel plus spark makes car go. Revving high - means the car thinks you have put the foot down or something.
I am just thinking out loud here, but could it be an automatic choke problem? How far does it rev out to? Is it like when you first start the car on a cold day - 1200+ rpms, or is it something stupid like 3000+rpms.
I am not sure how the throttle system is set up on our cars, but the only way an engine will rev higher is if it is getting more fuel - or is that the idle control valve's job? Sometimes a computer reset helps when you reaplce parts - did they do that? Does it happen daily, weekly, monthly? My gf's astra had issues with "missing" occasionally (new car). THey erplaced crank angle sensor and a whole number of other things and it turned out to be simply a computer glitch that needed to be reset. It took them 5 months to figure that one out though.
Hope this jibberish helps a little.

Hi guys
You can get an Idle Speed Controller from any mitsubishi wrecker. It's the same as the Lancer, Mirage, and Magna. Just take the old one in to double check.
A good way to check if your ISC is working is when the car is cold, take the ISC off and hold it in your hand while someone else turns the ignition on (do not turn car on) If the plunger retracts into the motor, you know at least it's receiving a signal from the ECU.
Back to Foxy's question
Eratic idle is probably caused by your ISC but it may not be a faulty ISC especially as you have bought 2.
Check the wires going into the Idle speed controller that they are still in tact. Check them well, I had a broken wire on mine which wasn't visible unless I took the plug right off and turned the plug around in my hand.
Check the throttle position sensor as suggested earlier. The ECU will open the ISC if it thinks the throttle is open.
There are a number of other sensors that control the ISC such as the coolant temperature sensor. Perhaps ask your mechanic about them
Unfortunately it's not an easy problem to diagnose and some mechanics don't have a clue what they're doing.

i think i got a same problem as you last time. ithe problem start when i start the engine and i heard "sshhhh" sound from under the hood. after that my car is revving high and low. the next day i found out that 1 of the air intake cable that goes into the head (under the engine cover) isn't pluged in properly. so i just thighten it, and it fix the problem..

Hi All
1st post for me !!!!!
Engine coolant temp sender is a common fault as is the ISC/stepper motor.
Personally I would NOT buy a recon unit just bite the bullet and buy a new one.
Mitsi changed the stepper design.
If you still have the brown ICS then expect trouble.
Suggest you Aussies buy from http://www.nardek.com.au/isc.htm
We sell about 5 a week of thes things and several engine coolant temp senders
