manual transmission fluid

Need some quick help guys. I have the day off and doing a service on the FTO. I want to change the manual trasmission fliud but unsure how to go about it. I can see the nut on the front of the gearbox the says oil. Im guessing that is the drain plug. If so where do I fill it up from. Also am I correct in thinking the manual box takes 2.2L of transmission fluid?

Yeah I've queried this myself and was hoping to get this done at the DIY day (which won't happen for a year). Not sure how to refill either but I can tell you that it'll take around 2.3L but always best to buy a little more to be on the safe side.

Yeah I wasnt sure as I have only changed autos and used to fill them from the dipstick.

Anyways I had success. (I think) What i did after I realised that the bolt marked oil was actually there to ensure that the correct amount of fluid is put into the box was a great idea. (again what I think). I used an old filler bottle from my nitro rc car and used it to pour the gear box fluid into the box through the small hole. worked a treat. Even used it to suck out the old stuff. Box feels great now.

Finally got the mood to do the trans oil change this evening.
Yucky brownish-red stuffs out, royal purple stuffs in.....YUM

zuihiujueding, are u driving a manual or auto ?

if manual, can you state where is the drain plug and filling plug? i already bought the trans oil but can't change because i dont know where is the plugs haha. Or because i havent jack the car up and check.

Drain Plug: Underneath passenger side axle.
Filler Plug: Front of the engine, probably about 1/4-1/2 way up gearbox. You probably will need a funnel with a long piece of hose attached to, fill it.

shuld be a 1/4 or 1/2" drive plug on the side/fron of the GB, should fit a standards socket drive. The auto is a bit different, manual is a 5min job if you have a good pump or fller

btw guys dont you have the FTO manuals, I thought it was a stickey?

It tells and has diagrams...would save you a few posts.

yea i have the manuals, but it didnt state which is the drain plug or fill plug and i dont wanna drain the wrong thing lol!

just wanna make sure again. 21185P is the filling plug ? 21199P is the drain plug.
and the P stands for plug ?

The red circle indicates the filler plug. the nut has the word "OIL" on it.

The green circle indicates the drain plug.

Thanks for the help. Finally received my oils and changed the transmission oil.
Now the shifting is really smooth.
Anyway i didn't manage to open up the drain plug cos it was too damm tight! and it is a really big plug. so i just unscrew the plate with 6 screws. should be fine right ?

something to share with the forum, www.performanceLUB.com, sells engine oils and spark plugs at a real good rate. Think this was mention somewhere in one of the old thread.

No worries!. But then how did you manage to drain the oil?
Ya. i got my Royal Purple Max Gear from them. Transaction was fast and smooth.

I drained it when i opened up the plate with 6 screws on it. it's a little higher than the drain plug, but ard 2.1 ~ 2.2 Litres of oil was drained thru that plate.

SO i assume it shld be almost the same as draining thru the drain plug. Just that it gets a bit messy and oily when draining thru that plate but its fast. Had to use my finger to scoop and dig some oil out

Anyway, i assume all the previous owners of the car never change the oil before... Previously, the gear was so hard to shift!! it felt like shifting gears in concrete!!! All is good now though.

i bought redline products instead, just changed the engine oil and transmission oil to redline and my car's color is imperial red.

OH it will probably be good to buy the rest of the fluids. THey are like vitamins for your ride. YUM...
