ex-Supra Owner looking at FTO

I had an N/A supra mk4 a couple years ago and crashed it beyond recognition. My Mrs has always been keen to get an FTO, I've driven it once didn't really think much of it.

I think I'm asking the question in the wrong place but... really how would you compare the 2. I'm keen to learn more about FTO's but still leaning towards getting another Supra MKiv (twin-turbo if I can save enough money otherwise another NA).

My Mrs doesn't like the supra never did. So I might comprimise with her. I don't mind the looks from the front (kinda like a supra - but the rear of the car *personally hate it - mainly the lights)

Are all FTO's naturally aspirated ? How would it go compared to the NA supra ?

I know it's fairly noobie kinda question and I should do more homework -- maybe someone is kind enough to give me some feedback.

0-100kmh in around 7~7.5 seconds, 15ish sec quarter mile, and it handles better than a Supra (comparing stock with stock of course).

Can you bare going from RWD to FWD?

All FTOs are NA from factory, but there are a few turbo ones around, the 2.5L V6 twin turbo engine from the Vr4 Galant/Legnum is becoming a popular swap.

I came from driving a Honda civic FWD to a Supra so I think it should be fine.
At least I would do less stupid things in a FWD. I killed my supra by doing a drift -- it was my last drift.

So... Are there differences in grades of FTO's what is the best ? I've seen GPX's and GP's what are the difference ?

The Supra NA was cranking 168kw's stock -- what does the FTO's pull out stock ?

Parts would same prices-ish i'm assuming and same with servicing the vehicle ?

2JZ-GTE! the supra's will be more of a better choice IMO. bigger potential output and easier to get parts because they are more popular than the fto's... and theres the bigger "street reputation" haha

Actually, as far as parts go, I can get any genuine new part landed within about 2 weeks, so parts arent really a problem (plenty of wreckers out there in a pinch as well).

The back of the FTO grows on you. I hated it to begin with. Now, Id like to improve it a little, but dont dislike it anymore.

If you are going to grab one, get a version R (GP). They have an LSD standard as well as front and rear strut braces. By the sounds of it, you would appreciate these features a lot more than climate control, which is what you get if you go for a GPX.

hehe, save for the supra tt straight out!

absolute f***in animals...

im already saving for one for when i get my full license but u would be really surprised of how good the FTO really is, i think it will go nearly as hard and as said above better handling than your NA supra, and probably better on petrol i bet. I think the shape of the FTO looks stunning and always turns heads when cruising around but i could say the same thing for supras. The 6A12 engine is also quite reliable especially if taken care of and serviced regularly.

The only thing im not too keen about with the supra is the interior, especially the centre console area and how its slanted towards the driver, the FTO interior definately dominates in that area

anyway good luck, and you will not be dissapointed if u go for the FTO

I might test drive another FTO again and come to a conclusion. The thing that had me most about the supra was the center console -- It felt like your driving a Plane like in a cockpit or something.... i thought it was kinda cool. It kept you passenger off touching your dials... hahaha...

The FTO's are better priced it seems. The GP(R) seem unfindable, the GPX seems to be plenty-ful as well as the GP's.

I'm itching to get another sports car ... if I can save up the money it will be the TT Supra otherwise I might settle for the FTO -- better on petrol as well.

How many Km's would you guys get on 1 tank on premium unleaded (I'm guessing that is what should be put into it).

i filled about 50 litres one time and got 400km out of it ... and i redline every gear

Jut a thought but I wonder if, because the FTO engines are designed to be driven high-revs, they give better fuel economy if you drive them in this manner than being driven gently?

Ummmm no,

Same as everything im afraid. The more lead in your foot, the more lead youll need in your wallet/purse.

Having said that, I dont tend to find that the fueld usage is markedly different between granny driving and spirited driving.

Oh and the GP is the version R

Thats the ticket. Thats what ive got. Its a fully loaded version R. If its in good condition, its the best thing you could grab IMO. They are also the most expensive to pick up. At auction in Japan these go for 4K more than a stock version R (although they arent worth that much more based on what you get). Still im only aware of a few in the country.

Hang on, thats a tiptronic, not a manual. Pity.....

Yeah seems like a bargain at that price, but if you can only afford what you can afford...
