Tip box "knocking" at standstill

Post by Storm »

I changed my timing belt last week and scared myself shitle55 taking the car off the ramps. I heard a "knock knock" at idle when I put the car into reverse which got quicker when I revved it a bit.

I thought I had goosed the bottom end while removing the bottom pulley nut or something 8O
However I now realise that when the car is in either drive or reverse BUT is sitting still with the brake on, that is when the knocking comes, and as soon as I let the car move it stops :?

It could be that I can now only hear it as the car is so much quieter with all the new belts and it was there all the time but has anyone else had anything like this.

(Collecting bits for manual conversion anyway but would rather not be trailered home again!)

knocking noises when the car is in gear but the brake is on?

my guess is...

engine is flexing against your brakes and the knocking is your engine mounts

thats funny, when I changed my timing belt my car had an annoying shudder only load. Thought I did do the timing right, but it was my torque convertor.

Why not get under your bonnet and see where the noise is coming from???

At the moment it only makes a noise in gear and the only person I have had to sit in the car and hold it on the brake is the wife. And I dont trust her enough to stand in front of a car with her in the driving seat :!:
