flapping sound when air-con is turned on.

Post by zuihoujueding »

Hi guys, im about to commit into buying a gpx.

however theres an issue when the aircon is turned on. There is something flapping inside the aircon duct when set to the main aircon duct. (not for the legs, nor winscreen). it happens for 20-30 secs and then it stops. and its like that everytime aircon is turned on with that particular setting.
I want to ask can it be diy fixed? and how easy can it be?

Mate this is a common problem with FTOs.

The actuator that changes the airflow from 're-circulate' to 'outside' seizes and the sound that you hear is the electronic component trying to move the internal flap again and again and again, before giving up. That's why the sound stops eventually.

What this means is that you won't ever get re-circulated air; even though the sound stops, that doesn't mean you're now getting re-circulated air.

I had this problem on my old FTO and was told it was relatively expensive to fix; so I never bothered with it cos I don't see it as a really a big problem!

Ill have spares of that bit somewhere. Recently bought another wreck and all heating/cooling components are still intact atm.
