really LOUD knocks

Post by cHONGA »

So really loud knocking noises when driving straight and can feel it heaps through steering wheel, thought it may have been drive shaft (cause knew boot was split) but i changed it today and noise still there. Checked droplinks they are sweet, when accelerating does not make the sound?? could a broken engine mount cause such a loud knock?? Also engine moves quite a bit when revved. HELP!! :(
Thanks guys.

yes the mounts can and will make a loud knock if F#@*ED and with the engine moving as you said would back that up.
Ben has put up a D.I.Y. on how to change them.

Yep, mounts. When the rubber in them splits, there is nothing other than the outer metal bracket holding it down. If the rubber falls out, the noise you are hearing is the bolt bashing against the outer metal bracket of the mount.

Horrible noise isnt it. Ive had that one before too.

Had the same problem too. But how come you felt it through the steering wheel? I used a crowbar to muck around with the mounts and now its perfectly fine...some sort of quick fix. lolz
