Maybe a issue i should look into - 21 Engine coolant temp ?

Post by Oliver89 »

Hey Guy's ,

Car is driving well , runs fine smooth especially with all NEW! 4 engine mounts i am cheering but 1 more thing concerns me & that is my Temp sensor on my dash it seems to overheat well go past half way mark when im in traffic for no particular reason , i checked the radiator which is full and the water tank as well which is full and everything seems to be fine , i just wanted to know if this was normal for the sensor to go past half way.... ?

Scares me abit and gets me worried so can you guys assist ?

Thanks :)

take out your radiator and send it to a radiator specialist... they will remove the end taks and flush the thing for a hundred or so... put it back in.... see if that helps...

Also check that your radiator fans are working before doing the above... could be loose plug, could be screwed fan... (Especialy if in stop start traffic)

mate it shouldnt be going past half way, it could be a few different things. Are your fans working? Could be something simple as a thermostat or more complicated like your water pump

Yep, as above ... Seems like some good advice...

Just be careful driving it ... You don;t want to have a blown head gasket ... I had an old 7m Cressida that had what you are talking about... Changed the thrermostat, worked for a while, flushed the radiator, pressure tested it, and it was looking OK ... But then would keep overheating every once in a while.... So I hard wired on the radiator fans, so I could keep the engine going while I waited for a 2jz engine, and for the Evo/GSR to be finished ...

Alas the old 7m didn;t last so I had to replace it .... Which then used up my funds for the 2jz as I needed the car as a daily ....

mine might sit above half way, but using evoscan it shows the actual temp to be within 90 deg. I can also watch the thermos kick in and it goes back down to 85.

you guages might not be so accurate.

Do the termos kick in?

Basically the main issue is a old and tired water pump if it hasnt been changed.

Well thanks for that guys but i can defiantly say that my fans work and turn on correctly and all & when that happens the needle goes down below half way on sits on half.

I havent done what the forst 3 or 4 Posts have said to be done but i might look into it.

Its fine , i drive the car nice and easy , Aint pushing it to its limits im kinda over it atm lol

But yeah , ill take a look into it and see how things go.

Thanks Guys. :)
