Hi All.
Not sure if this is the right place to post for this however if not could a moderator please move to correct area Thanks
Firstly i must say a huge thanks to all who posted replys to : Sun May 11, 2008 12:15 am Post subject: Help please !!!
Your assistance with this delema has been invaluable Thanks. Turns out to be a meltdown in the big end bearings and a stuffed crank.
I have indeed found an engine in Vic from a members recomendation ( just under 1k

After reading through forums, looking at belt nos fitted and talking to many members i was a little confused. The posts and forums recommend a gates T 987 timming belt however both engines we have had the MD179620 mitsubishi belt which converts to a T 954.
A little more reserch proved the T 954 is the correct one for our belt.
The reasoning for this is the T 987 has 232 teeth and the T 954 has 226.
The incorrect length belt allows the tensioner to be at its maximun before the belt even stretches or has any wear, or at its minimum making it to tight.
So a note to all when you change your timming belt ensure you get the correct ammount of teeth your car has had originaly fitted or premature replacement may be on the cards.
A total of aprox 10 hours spent on the change out ( drive in drive out, without a hoist ) i feel was time well spent for a first time on a unique vehicle i am not familiar with. With that said my girl is now happy her car is back on the road and purring nicely.

Once again Thanks heaps to all on this site your experience and info has been invaluable
