Idle Speed Control Motor??

Post by Tbone »

Hi guys,
I'm having problems with my FTO! My baby has been cutting out a lot, the revs are going up and down and then the car cuts out totally - it does this all day without fail. I took it to Mitsubishi Motors in Bendigo and the guy seemed unsure about FTOs in general.
He said he thought it was the idle Speed Control Motor (or the Stepper Motor as he called it). He said a replacement of this should fix my problems.
He then said he wasn't sure about the part and he said he couldn't get a genuine replacement part but was trying to find a generic part that would fit.

1. Firstly, do you guys think this guy knows what he is talking about?

2. Is there a generic part available and if so, what is it called and what supplier do you recommend?

3. I live in Melbourne now, but my car is still in Bendigo cause I left it there when I went OS and I want to fix it ASAP. If I can ever get the car to go again (i'm having battery/electrical issues as well) I want to bring it back to Melbourne with me and take it to a good mechanic who actually knows what the hell to do with an FTO - any recommendations (preferably that aren't too far from Carlton)?

Any help would be very much appreciated as I am in a total jam at the moment!
Thanks, Tbone

I just recently replaced mine - I have a GPX model, and the one in the car was the original beige one.
I got mine from nardek website - spoke with an adam, Cost $195 with extra $5 for express next day delivery
http://www.nardek.com.au/contactnardek.htm

Give him a call. The stepper motors have an E9T.... number on it so itll pay for you to quote it so as to make sure he gives you the right one. There aretwo type - the one got for the mivec 6cyl was a mode "510-16"

have a look at http://www.nardek.com.au/iscsub.htm

Im not plugging him - its just that I found he was very good and the parts are genuine as well. I tried kempys, and they were not helpfull, slow to respond, and also the part quoted was second hand for $160NZ - I decided to get a brand new one for piece of mind.
cheers
Tom
