Hey all! I was watching "In pit lane" on Channel 31 last week and they had a segment on Mitsubishi FTO, and I was really impressed with the car and I wouldn't mind getting one, but I hear that you have to get them imported. Is this the only way I can get one, or might I be able to go to a dealership and try my luck there? If anyone could give me some info about it, that would be great!!
Cheers!
How do I go about getting an FTO?

Mate, your best place to start is the following websites:
Here you can do a search for used fto's. It really depends on what your want, and how much your willing to pay. That will decide what to do next. My advice, is do your research, especially on insurance.

Nah, sorry! It was a really cool segment though! I'm desperately looking to get rid of my '85 Magna, and that car is the one I want! I have to save for a while though!Guni_GuGu wrote:Lol, did you happen to record the show by chance?? I've been trying to get ahold of that segment on the fto, would be great, if you did record it.
Thanks for all the links guys!!

Bomber_Man, before you buy a FTO, it may pay to come along to one of the events held in your state. That way you can see a range of cars, colours, modifications, and speak to the owners and get a better idea of what to get and what to look out for.
Check the state forums for the next event.
BTW, which state you from?

there are a number of ways which you can buy an FTO:
1. personal import (don't bother unless you've lived in Japan for 12mths)
2. private import (through a broker/agent)
3. import dealer yards (and they will rip you off)
4. private sale (it's gold/land mine in one)
If you are from Melbourne, we could show you around or perhaps give you a ride so you can have a feel what it's like inside...

I am a Victorian, so I'll be on the look-out for the next event in Melbourne. I think I'd much prefer actually looking at the cars myself rather than get them imported from Japan, you'd never know if you're getting a dud. It seems like there's a real "brotherhood" between people interested in FTO's!!

haah just kidding...
your in good hands with the victorians there are plenty of experienced FTO owners way down there... check out the Victorian forum for events and cruises, may pay to go to one and check out what's going on. it'll also be easier for people to answer all your questions in one go
