HUGE virus warning
In the past few days my computer has been infected with the new mutation of the MyDoom/Novarg worm and I have been unwittingly sending spam. It spoofs the sender's name and usually comes with an attachment of some sort. If you've had previous versions of the MyDoom/Novarg worm, you're NOT protected from this one!
This version is quite clever because it does not allow you to run Norton AntiVirus to clean it. You can tell that your computer is infected when you hover your cursor over the NAV auto-protect icon and it simply disappears. Make sure you run a live-update, but if you've already been infected, you may have to download the removal tool from
http://www.symantec.com .
Also watch out for the Netsky virus!

The funny thing is that the Netsky virus came to me addressed from dannyboyau
and the MyDoom virus came from a friend's workplace which he quit six months ago. Obviously both were mockeries but I was still stupid enough to open them without running LiveUpdate first

As per the thread I started about MyDoom, Norton's is missing a lot of Viruses!
I suggest VERY strongly you move to Nod32 ( www.nod32.com / www.nod32.com.au ). From the various companies that test antivirus software, Nod32 is rated the best and consistantly out performs the others.
When I installed it, it found a number of viruses which Norton's had missed and some which McAfee had also missed. It also picked up this new virus you mentioned, unlike Nortons, so I have not been infected or had any problems.
Ahhh!!!! gives Nod32 a big hug!
I think Kev is evaluating this software and may decide to stock it. If he does perhaps he can do a special price for the FTO forum.

Well i've just hire a new technician/geek at my shop, he use to be a cop & in the forensic team for the coroner. His really a crazy bastard, he can still dig up your files even if you format your HDD ten times
Anyway he told me the reason why Norton isn't as usefull as it use to be, is cause Norton is the most popular virus scanner in the world, so most hacker/virus maker will hack Norton before any other virus scanner. So if you got one of those non-popular virus scanner, the chances of it protecting your computer is better then the popular one eg; Norton & McAfee.
Well i still couldn't download the Nod32 for some reason, but i've find another program that also pick up virus which Norton & McAfee didn't.
I will let you guys know how i go with this virus scanner after a few days, i'm getting my technician to hack it & see if its up to the standard. Requarding Nod32, once i got it, i will do the same & if of course i will do a special price for ppl in FTO forum.
The best way to avoid all these virus, worm or trogent is to set up a firewall, with 2 different virus scanner installed.

Kev, I'll bring you a copy of the trial version of Nod32 on the weekend cruise.
Aside from its better protection, it is also far more flexible in the setup. You can have it in your face like Nortons, or sitting quietly in the background. You can also have it notify you via Win Msg or email about any virus activity on any of the computers you've installed it on. It is easily the most impressive and customisable anti-virus I've ever seen, and I've used most of them.

Due to exchange rates, if you buy this product from the Australian website ( www.nod32.com.au ) it will cost you AUD$75, but if you buy it from the US website ( www.nod32.com ) it will be USD$39 or a little over AUD$50. So you roughly get a 30% discount for buying from the US site!
When purchasing from the US website, do not select "Australia" as the place to purchase it from or you will be redirected to the Australian site, instead choose "Other Country". When you are filling out the actual billing details, it is fine to use Australia as the country then.
Once you've paid for it, you'll receive an email with the username and password and the website address to download the program from, within 5 mins.

Cool. I'll put the 40c back in my piggy bank so I can save up to be rich!
From what I understand, the two most important and thorough tests for anti-virus software is the Virus Bulletin and the Check Mark. According to both these companies, NOD32 is the best. In fact, it is the ONLY anti-virus that has NEVER failed a "in the wild" test.

I've been using this for a little while now and compared with Nortons, McAfee, and most more commonly known brands, this leave them for dead. Not only in terms of finding and protection from viruses, but also in it customisation and features.
