alternator light?

Post by ftokiwi »

help/ feedback please.

the wifes fto's alternator light has come on a couple of time for no apparent reason. it appears to be a random event. the volt meter shows 14vdc and my fluke confirms the same. this happens on start up, regardless of weather the ac is on or not- will stay on from 1-5mins and doesnt disappear even if she gives it a good rev (4k+). once it disappears its gone. the car still starts fine and the battery is holding a decent charge (13vdc odd). im about to put an orbital deep cycle battery in but my concern is im about to put ice in the car.....

has anyone come across this before?

pics before and after. ive read that the alternators on fto's can be dodgey. is charging at 15vdc+ a common sign they are about to blow?
