Converting 4spd to 5 spd Tip.

Post by JOeJOe »

I know there are topics in manual conversion but not converting 4spd to 4spd tiptronic. Grue is selling his 5spd tip cluster and it got me thinking.

I have a 4spd, my question is is this hard to do? what internal mechanics needs to be changed? The purpose of this is for the extra gear up and better fuel economy.

You mean 4spd to 5spd tiptronic...

Attractive, I'd agree. I've heard the 5spd pull much harder than the 4's.

Don't forget you'll need the 5spd gearbox ECU as well. I'm not sure if there are other differences in the software for the engine ECU on the 5 spds (They talk to one another quite a bit so there may be...)

My bad - 4spd to 5spd (4spd to 4spd doesn't look very hard to do  )

I guess it's an alternative to a manual conversion if you want the extra gear up. I guess I need to find a wreck that is 5spd.
