how many km's ?

Post by harry90 »

How many kilometres has your FTO done ? Do you think the odometer has been winded back ? How can you tell ?
Mine has done 75000kms and it is a 95 GPX... i dont think it has been winded back as i have the import notice with the number of km's at/during import ... i dont know about before that though.

I have a 95 GPX. It had 69k on it when I bought it a few years ago, now it is around 143k

Is there any wear on the gear stick knob, the steering wheel or the seats? These are a better indication of how old the car is.

Mine has about 55K on it now (99 model). I have servicing stickers on the car (km and date) that pretty much back up what the speedo says.

    95 GPX Chassis - 187,000km
    96 GR engine (rebuilt 07) - 3,200km

paintwork is really the biggest give-away for its km's... but still holding up well

78,000 km when I bought it, 135,000km now

Suspension needed an overhaul at about 115,000 - 120,000 - YOu might notice a few clunks here & there in a car with more k's on the clock

might also notice a lot more rattles than a car with genuine low km's

Look for wear around the door handles on the interior .. the floor carpeting, and the dash .. seats as previously mentioned are a big indication as well..

they're not going to let you rip out the interior to check for rust in the roof, but make sure you at least check the paint from the outside & make sure that it hasn't started to bubble.. otherwise you might be in for an expensive repair job to get rid of the rust. can't hurt to ask them whether they've checked for it before..

56,000 km when i bought it. Almost 100% it was genuine...oh it was a 97 car. Seats were good nick, steering wheel was good nick, i don't think there were any rattles and paint was awesome for 9years then. After a few light mods i was putting out better power than average too so yeah...

79,000km when i traded it in, just a month ago or so.

I dont think can wind back the speedo's on electric dash's. Its only the analog ones you can be pulling out the speedo cluster, pulling out the actual counter, removing a pin and manually winding it back. the easiest way to tell on them is easy the numbers dont sit straight, i know guys who used to do this when all the imports started coming to nz and no matter how hard they tried they would always be slightly crocked

It is possible to wind back electronic Speedo's but is very hard...

Easier to replace the Dials (much more common)

Yeah on the old style dials (starion's i think), where you could jack up the car start it, put it in reverse and put a brick on the accelartor. the computers inn cars from 90's onwards were built a lot more complicated than that.

Of course anything can be done. Look apparently they put a man on the moon. But can it done cheaply enough to suit the pupose of gaining a extra couple of dollars for selling a car with lower kms on it..... and i think you will find no.
