Foglight Wires

Hey guys, just a small problem nothing too serious but one day i tried to test my Angel Eyes bought from the GB and i have now cut off too much of the Foglight wires that it wont reach each other anymore to make the foglight light up. Do i have to buy new wires to connect the old ones together? or is there another way of doing it. Thanks

my question is why did you cut bits of the wire off? lol

if it wont reach then just add a bit of wire in the gap, and bob's your uncle

lol, i stripped like a section out of the foglights wire to wire it to the angel eyes and it worked for like two and then after that the foglights and the angel eyes didnt work at all.

So i thought i kind of pulled it too much that the foglight wire didnt work anymore so i though if i cut it completely, strip it and joined them together it will work but unfortunately it didnt work, lol i did that a few times and yeah it got too short.

About the extra bit of wire in the gap, is there like a certain type of wire i have to get to put it in the gap? could you give me some exmaple wires i could put in? Im bad at electronics -_-. Thanks

ok, any wire of the same thickness would do you fine, or even a little bit thicker (diameter wise) would be fine too.
i've been using a roll of wiring that fell off a truck for all my wiring needs atm so i cant relly tell you exactly what it is lol (but if u dont want to go out and buy some wiring, and have some spare wiring lying around and not sure if u can use it, tell me what it is and i'll give u my best guess on if it's goign to work or not lol)

however, i have a feeling u have shorted the circurt while testing it, and blew a fuse or the actual fog light switch (does your fog light switch stick when u press it?), or if u physically pulled on the wiring relatively hard u might've just disconnected it. if u r not too sure then check it with a multi meter.

hmm, will VCR wires work? or like amp wires? ill have a look around and see what i can find. About the foglights, everything works fine except the foglights, like when i push down the foglight switch it sticks down like normal and the dials light up along with my park lights but no foglights thats all. i guuess any of the wiring you get from your household appliances would work (the bit from the plug to the actual appliance), just use one of the 3(or 2) strands.

generanl rule of thumbs is u'll need something about the same thickness or slightly thicker.

i've personally used lan cables a fair bit for dodgy cabling, it quite handy cos it has the 7 individual strands, so i can use as many of the strands as i need to match the thickness of the wiring i'm replacing.

it will work...the lan cable would be too thin to support that current. - I assume your talking about one of the colored wires

just go buy some appropiate guaged wire and do it properly all it will just burn out and you will be doing it again 20min later

So far I've read nothing but dodgy tatics. No wonder you guys post up issues every 3 days...using lan cable for for fog lights? ffs do something properly.

A better Idea was the appliances cable. Strip back the outer sheath and use the wires inside, they will support your current generally.

And they are not strands...strands are what make up a stranded cable which is the most common, if some1 was dumb enough to take you litterly then they might be in all sorts of trouble.

Go to jaycar or dicksmith and buy a length for $3.

Lan cable

A roll of automotive wire from supercheap would be the first port of call for me.

Make sure the connections you make are solid, and insulate well - will get a lot of moisture down there.

lol, when i did use lan cable, i used more than 1 strand (or whatever they r supposed ot be called

, by strand i mean one of 7 individual wire thingos in a lan cable) lol.

yeah i know its dodgy, but he asked for wiring he can find in the house. and everyone has lan cables

(i'm using some for my washing line atm lol)

Yeah come on guys, go to frickin supercheap repco etc and buy a roll for a couple of dollars, it even comes colour coded red for positive and black for negative, so that next time your playing around down there you can remember what the f&*k you have done. DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE. Im all for being inginuitive and usuing stuff around the house (a coke bottle for a funnel) but thats just getting ridiculas

why dont you just take a a sample of the old wire take it to a place like jaycar and get some wire that has the same cross sectional area or more?the ones at jaycar are multi stranded copper, just get that because the wre has to be able to handle the current supplied.The thinest wire at jaycar handles 3.5A and the next size up handles 7A so go for the 7A one..Also to join the wires just get wire splicing blocks, easy as hell to use clip tthe two wires in and done otherwise shed the insulaiton abck from both the wires twist them to gether and electrical tape the whole lot....

good advice.

I solder them personally but you can get a terminal block if u like cos its much easier if u having got the soldering iron or cbf with it..

yep soldering is a good option to, rememberif ou solder htem twist the copper strands together tin the copper wire and also tin the other wire oyu are conencting it to and add a bit of solder to the iron and heat the whole lot together if you are a ebginer at soldering you can get a FLUX pen form jaycar (5bux) makes sildering a whole lot easier and after u have soldered it up electrical tape the lot.

you can buy the wire from dick smiths by the meter. its about 3 bux a meter if i remember
