the median age of cars here is a lot higher, and its much more affordable and viable to buy new in aus simply because of the price of second hand cars... why pay 30k for a old silvia when you can get a new toyota seca for 30....

back home a silvia would be about 8 and a new seca about 36/7

I don't know how increasing tax on "grey imports" and also changing the regulation from will help the local market.

Look at the latest GTR for example, its $80k on the road in Japan while is $180k on the road by the time its land in Oz. How on earth does the local market justify the $100k different Especially when you consider Nissian Oz would of got it at a wholesale price which is most likely lower then the retail price in Japan.

If they don't, Nissian Oz is having serious logistic problem.

Because the OZ manufacturers dont want anyone to import cars, they want you to buy OZ made. So they say to the government if you dont want us to lay off 5000 ppl and want millions and millions of dollars going off shore, you better heavily tax the sh*t out of ppl trying to import cars from jap.

OZ manufacturers can also say to the govermant, third parties may only import x amount of cars per year EG toyota mr2

LOL Simon i know why they put up the import tax, the point was, the goverment try to help local manufacturers by increasing the tax, but the local maunfacturers aren't exactly helping themself when they slap on a huge markup.

If they can't sell the cars, they only got themself to blame.
