Idle Advice

Anyone know if you can re-set the ICS stepper motor, or get it done somewhere.
Also...any idea on the cost of and where:
TPS
ECU temp sensor
and ICS

if your having bad idle after changing your spark plugs, check your leads are on properly...

Nope, I changed the plugs and all is good. This has been going on for a while, stalls and won't idle...dies.
I found out you can disassemble the stepper motor and check it..I thought the settings were controlled in the motor assy..not the ECU
I think it's either that or the temp sensor...possibly the TPS.
Just that I reset the ECU when I did the plugs so I'm not sure what codes I had.

Just need some advice on where you can get any of these and some idea of the cost..
The timing belt is next, so I guess a water pump would be the go as well.
I'm in Bris. and the local Mitsubishi dealer looks at you like your talking some other language.

Well it’s the stepper motor alright. I pulled it apart and it’s open circuit on one side of the rear coil.
Anyone have one for sale or know where they can be had at a reasonable price??
Or…anyone have a faulty one they can send me.
I can repair these things with a few spare parts…no problem

Here’s what I found anyway, in case anyone is having the same problem.
The intake manifold/hoses/AFM were perfectly clean, except there was a build up of black gunk on the edge of the throttle valve and in the throttle body around where the valve closes.
I think what has been happening is that this buildup has slowly closed off the idle opening, forcing the ECU to increase steps until it’s out of travel..I think then the end winding burned out.
The motor shaft has 5 turns from open to closed, so I turned it in 4 turns, cleaned it and put it back. Worked great on several starts, until it reached normal operating temp. I expect it’s opened to where the dead winding can’t pull it back.
Good reason to pull off the intake pipe and check the throttle valve for gunk..I had to remove it with a scouring pad..oh and the manual is pretty loud about not spraying solvent into the bypass vents..saw that after I did -. Doesn’t give a reason, but I think it affects the insulation on the windings in the stepper motor.

Anyway, if anyone has a fudged stepper motor….

Sounds like classic Stepper motor.

Mine had a stuffed coil as well, but only manifested when it heated up. Ended up with it on a workbench, and hit it with a heat gun to see it fail.

Dont have one to send you, but can advise you, i got one out of a Magna from a wreckers. Just had to change the plastic plunger over, and it works like new ever since. I just cant recall the model magna it was from. I remember it had a similar part number though, and I'd guess was from around the same era (early - mid 90's)

Yeah thanks..I ended up getting one from the wreckers, they had 2 in Southport. The first one I checked was stuffed as well..other one was good.
What they do is dependent on which coil is burned out, either die at idle, or hunt, or rev.
Don't toss out your old one anyone, they are easily repaired if you have a spare, even a dud one.

There's some UK dealer flogging them on Ebay for 85UKP but by the time you get one it'd be closer to 250 bucks..you know what Mitsubishi quoted...$315.00!

Doesn't show FTO as a compatible model, but there was a post by umm who found these and it worked a treat.
