Clearifying the confustion over the major 100k service

Post by nofearzz »

Hi all.

It's time for my GPX to have it's big 100000 km service, so i've been searching around on this website and the forums and there seems to be allot of confusion, different opinions, and prices for the 100k service. (or 80k service for some)

So i though we'd clean the slate and once and for all sort out what needs to be done.

So does anyone out there know what the full 100000km service requires?

(Some of the confusion and opinions i've noticed are:
Pricing: Genuine or non genuine.
Buy from Nz or not?
Timing belt prices.
Servicing prices.
Change the Hydrolic tentioner or not?
Timing belt tooth number = which belt part number to chassis number
Cam seals replacing?
Spark plug type.
FTO Engine oil filter in this website has 2 MD numbers, which one?
So where is the best place to get parts and servicing at reasonable rates?
And anything else you think is important for the 100k service.

Sorry this post is so detailed and thanks for any help... But afterall this will help us all keep our FTO in top condition.

The single most important thing to do at 100000km service is REPLACE THE TIMING BELT! The tensioner does not need replacing generally.

ok i had this done prematurely as i had leaking cam seals.... 85000km
This was way expensive for me (please dont mention it!) it still hurts!

Major service, grease oil change etc etc
all fluids drained and refilled, safety check, sterring components, lubes etc etc.....

Replaced engine timing belt and camshaft seals ($780 labour) ARGGGG

I had brake service, removed front brake pads and replaced, retration test, more lubeing etc.

cost of parts
Fuel Injector service ($276)
Timing belt - original mits ($225)
Power St belt ($93)
Alternator belt ($53)
Rocker cover gaskets ($90)
oil seals ($32)
crankshaft seals ($15)
Spark plugs x 2 ($65)
spark plugs x 2 ($36)

plus a few other silly things like oil and filters etc..

i wont tell you the total cost but it was big.... but the guy said everything is now done, you may as well replace all this stuff at once, especially seals etc as they are difficult to get to. and you DONT want to pay for labour twice.
Hope this helps you all with pricing in the future.
