u need to stop buying ftos :P

I've been thinking about it for a while, but i'm not intrested in upgrading everything or having a manual.

From my reading i straight 6A13 conversation is not to bad but I'm trying to suss out the Tip issues...if and when i cbf i straight conversion on a low boost would be fine.

might be easier for me to buy a gr engine and turbo that i have decided. but if there is no issues using the tip...a straight conversion would be my best bet.

Yeah but then ya gotta find someone to trick up the tip box so it copes with the extra horsies....

      The other day

      Post by dstocks »

Not that I know much about this kind of stuff, but was talking with a mate about the whole 4WD turbo thing the other day and he said it might be easier to transfer the fto shell onto something like an evo 7 chassis if they are the close to the same, rather than trying to modify transmission tunnel etc of the FTO.

Is that idea way off or is there some merit in it??????

I wish I knew more about chassis's I really do... cause the FTO was based on a CE (?) chassis I think, and it was at that time (sort of Evo 3,4,5) that the chassis of the Evo changed from being the same as a Lancer, to a much more heavy duty version of that Lancer. Something like an extra 200 welds went into the Evo chassis from then on...

So there may be some food for thought in that.

I would assume that would be a monster of a project too.. i mean not only the labour involved but also the cost of the Evo in the first place. Sure it would be cheaper to do the conversion on a fto. It really cant be that dear. Galant AWD box and running gear with most likely a custom tail shaft. New exhaust system and Drop tank. Already got the Tunnel there for it. Surely 10k would cover it.

Ahhh, but I was told an evo 7 was the beginning of some of the really nice stuff suspension/stability wise. I was told some of the stuff that was introduced by the evo 7, but its gone now.....

Problem is, if you go too recent, the chassis changes too much

chassis changes and rebuilding etc comes at a high price trust me I know ... not only the physical and demanding work it takes to build a good chassis it has to be engineered to a strict standard and then signed off on by a qualified engineer who is licenced with that type of work the costs are huge my last engineers certificate cost me close to $3K and I still had to change things to suit him ....
overall after I complete this rebuild I would never do one again ..... easier to buy the car with the basics and work with them !

this is just based on my experience and opinions will vary ....

            what stuff?

An evo starts with a good base...easier to mod without changing thing like Toni was talking about above.

... i feel slightly stupid now lol

well evo 6 needed 17" stockies cos of the brake upgrade, then evo 7 has the first tip box along with better suspension/stability things, evo 8 has the 400BHP + suspension/stability that just wont let you roll (i saw it on tv so it must be true lol, saw when they raced the evo 8 against the.. green expensive car... i cant rememeber what it was anymore   )
...i cant remember why i just listed that off now :?

so did we come to a conclusion to if it's easier to drop an fto onto an evo, or gut an evo anf chuck it in an fto.

hopefully the price of old evos will drop because of the evoX's cheaper version to match wrxs, which would mean that there will be more write off evos as well, and shouldl make these project more possible..
