FTO AUSTRALIA

Hi all,

I always knew that FTO Australia is the best source for anyone looking for informations on FTO engine conversions, but browsing through the forum the other day (mainly out of boredom) blew my mind, the quality of the images and posts/tutorials is really outstanding! Simply put I knew I had to register!

I first saw the FTOs about ten years ago at your end of the globe (during studies in New Zealand). I think it was the sound of the V6 and its curves that got my attention and made it stand out among the other Japanese sports cars.

In January I decided that life is too short to drive boring cars and went ahead and acquired manual 99 GPX in Scotia White.

It's mostly stock except for little things fitted by previous owners:

HKS Super Power Flow (mushroom) air filter
Sparco X-Fast gear knob
Razö sport pedals
and Magnacor plug leads

Every since I got the car I've been working on restoring it to it's former glory - taking apart and refreshing various bits etc. The mileage now is 118K kilometres.

Not sure I can trust the mileage, the clocks (speedometer etc.) have been out previously - the housing is scratched fair bit, also the wear on the driver seat and steering wheel is worse than on some higher mileage FTOs that i've seen.

The car has been resprayed in past (not the best job, the paint is flaking in one spot) and I hand wash it / wax it every fortnight or so that's why she looks so pretty. I've spent about 15 hours on engine bay detailing alone (not counting in respray of various bits like the battery tray etc. that was all rusty)

I asked about the "carpet strips" when I was buying the car and was told that the car came in from Japan like that, it's probably some sort of noise insulation (it's on the bonnet too). I wouldn't mind getting rid of it but the adhesive that's holding it is pretty good...

The intake manifold/plenum definitely needs a bit of work, it's spoiling the look of the engine bay. I kind of like the way they looked when they came out of factory, maybe I'll polish the lettering and paint the bits surrounding the text in red (and paint the rest in some sort of aluminium colour)

I'm planning on turning my attention to the underbody next (whenever the winter is over), need to take care of some rust.

WTTC! I remember it was a white facelift FTO that first caught my eye when I was looking for cars to buy. Wasn't able to ignore it after that! Yours looks pretty mint, especially the lack of panel gap! Interior too.

The steel silver is surprisingly alluring I have found. I was fairly indifferent to being with (was happy enough to have an FTO!), but the way the metallic behaves and catches the light makes for some good photography.

I have the same sort of folder. Yeah, I've been on SW for just a little while, but it's good coverage there.

It's not down, it just takes a while to load at times, I suspect the hosting was changed. If there will be members migrating it will be because it has gone awfully quiet on the forum lately...

That's it! I stumbled across some pictures that make them look irresistible in this colour.

I've only read the other day that you'll be getting a white one in January, dying to see it with the RPF1s fitted!

How long has it been for you like that? Might be worth investigating - chances are you're not the only one experiencing this...

Been like that for about a month as far as I know. Hadn't tried accessing the site for a while before that.

Hmm, isup.me says it is up, but FTO Ireland times out for me, too. DNS issues perhaps?

Don't think it's DNS, I can get an nslookup result.

According to http://whois.domaintools.com/fto-ireland.com there are over 1200 other sites on that IP (83.138.8.96) and I can't get to any of them either...
