Any idea of the cost of this damage or is this a write off?
Hi all,
I have moved to Melbourne recently and over the weekend my baby had an unfortunate accident, where someone rear ended me when I did a dead stop for a siren cop car crossing in front of me. Lucky enough there was no casualty apart from a stiff sore neck for me. Both parties have insurance and the cop are writing up a police report where the other party is at fault of failing to stop for a cop car on duty. I have it insured for agreed value of $5500. I was wondering what the repair cost for this would be or whether it would be writeoff?
Attached are the images of the crash damage.
Thanks,
Rj

Decent smack. Hard to tell without the bumper off but it looks like a write off.

From experience, that is about $7,000 worth of damage so I think you may have a write-off.
Me? Bitter? f**k no. I think it's hilarious.

If it is a writeoff, would I still be able to keep my car (when i have some spare cash, i could repair it in the future)? Also I have 10 months of rego left. I have heard the insurance company takes the rego amount. Is that true?

No where near 7k worth of damage, that'd like 1.5 at the most with paint

The back of the panda was worse than that and it was fixed. Cost I can't recall as the other party/insurance payed for it.

I'd say a good 2k ..
Depending on if u get parts off here, or let a panel shop source them.

if it's written off, you will generally be offered (or you can ask the insurance company) to buy the car as salvage.Rj-Fto wrote:If it is a writeoff, would I still be able to keep my car (when i have some spare cash, i could repair it in the future)? And yes insurance company will keep the rego (i.e. they get the balance of the rego refunded to them).
They will also keep the insurance premium for that period of insurance (a period of insurance is generally a year). So if you paid annually, they won't refund you any thing; if you pay by the month, they will deduct the remainder of that period from the pay out (i.e. if you pay $100/month and you have paid 5 month's worth since taking out the policy/renewal, they will deduct $700 from the pay out, on top of whatever your excess is)
But as other's have said, probably not going to be a write off (fingers crossed anyway).

If the floor pan behind the bumper is bent is a write off.
Take the carpet and spare wheel out of the boot and see how much damage there is.

The floor pan would surely have been bent with that crash. I would say it's a write-off, and you'd be better off getting a new car instead of continuing to drive one that has had a major accident.

Thanks all. The repairer gave a quote of $4801 as there is damage under the boot as well. I am with justcar and they are assessing the situation. Not sure what their writeoff policy is as it differs from insurance co to co. Fingers crossed, as I should hear from them tomorrow.

Do you pay your premium monthly? If so from memory you have to pay the rest of the remaining.

Re: Any idea of the cost of this damage or is this a write o
Apparently the car needs to be hoisted in some machine which would try pulling it back into shape. Insurance adviced if it comes back alright they would proceed with repairs else mark it as writeoff. Is there any known issues long term of pulling the car in such a way and then fixing it OR is it better to ask for a write off? I do not want a dodgy repair that could cause more problems/dollars going forward.

Definitely ask for a write-off if you can. A car with damage that bad will never be able to handle the same, and a lot of the structural integrity is gone.

Yeah for a car this old it's a waste of time. Write her off.
