well i can see it being as good way to get the parts i want cheap. if there is enough demand from here it might not be a bad investment to get a printer

they are about $1200

I know gktech make modified steering knuckles and other parts and then print them on 3d printer and test fit them to cars so anything is possible.

Didn't I mention 3D printing a UAS pipe some time ago?
I don't need one now though.

If you could 3D print in "clear" you could make headlight covers/lenses.

There is a glow in the dark I want to try for the lower console part. Under my carbon fibre surround

Super rare Pod filter box that came with the ARC Chamber. Only person i know in Aus with one is Dwayne

I don't mean to crush your hopes and dreams, but a $1200 printer will only print somewhere around 20cm x 15cm x 15cm, which is too small for console surrounds (and most parts for that matter unless you're printing in parts and somehow fusing them together later). If I were you I would wait another year when you'll be able to get a printer twice that size for half the price

the online place im looking at has a larger printer, but i wont know how big i need until the scan is completed.

No you couldn't. When you print something it comes out like a finely details computer model. I can assure you the cost for the printer and materials to print one in high enough quality to do car headlights would be well and above the cost for just buying one normally. Same goes for the centre console. If you want it to look nice, buying one will probably be cheaper than printing one off in a high enough resolution.

You'll also end up with a different colour with the 3D print, meaning the center console will need to be painted a different colour (and will look out of place). Add into that the cost of materials and it doesn't become worthwhile.

3D printing is still relatively new to consumers, it's going to be a quite a few more years at least before it's worthwhile for the standard person.

It's great for prototyping, and making one off masters. I'll be using it soon to make masters of items that I will then clean up and cast in resin. The high cost of making a detailed master is then spread across the cheapness of being able to replicate the item in resin.

well, im still goign to scan the items and to a test print.

A 3D printer prints things a tiny single layer at a time.

Imagine stacking thousands of pieces of paper that has been cut out specifically so when its stacked it forms a shape, thats basically it.

what you have said is not really true! it is more like using spaghetti and gluing them one on top of the other.
I have access to a 3D printer as you have described and the print envelope is about 200 x 160 x 150 mm's
there are many different kinds of printers, that can print nylon and even metals.

when you have done the scan let me know and I will check the cost of one in Nylon.

I've arranged a day and time in a couple of weeks. I have my stereo surround upper and another.
Plus a lower and my shattered one.
Door cups
What else? Even if we can't print it now scanning it ahead of time makes sense.

Based on my rough estimate a surround would run about $20-30 in plastic... Worth investigating

You can get brand new genuine door cups for about $15 each. Are you sure its worth printing out copies that have to be painted. Stereo surround I can understand given the cost of new ones, but there would only be a few dollars in it at most with the door cups and even then the colour wont match.
