Most common thing to cause high fuel consumption is a bad O2 sensor.

it had a service last week and the guy didnt say there was any issues and when i said about the fuel he just brushed it off like i was making it up. Whats it worth to get an oxygen sensor checked out/ replaced? do ftos need special ones or is it easy to get one?

Don't have any feral people living in your area that could be pinching fuel? It's always a possibility. But yea check o2 sensor first like previously mentioned

Could be anything from dirty spark plugs to bad o2 or clogged air filter. It would be very hard to diagnose over the net and could get costly if it's not the o2 sensor.

Check the error codes see if it throws anything up, but this in itself is a pain in the ass.

The O2 sensor is on the downpipe, the sensor on the cat is the cat temp sensor. Some people either get a bung welded onto the new cat, remove the sensor and the bulb from the dash or keep the sensor plugged in and tuck it away somewhere.

So $400 labour to replace strut tops, do a oil change, swap over a starter motor and top up fluids. All that should have been a hours job at most.

Sorry to say, but you got ripped.

Seriously? Changing strut tops is the same process as many other cars, oil change is simple, starter motor is two bolts. What research is needed?

Depends on how you're driving and what type of driving? I get at the moment average 9.45L/100km and i'm doing city driving and fast accelerating

Suspension work is quoted at an hour per corner, regardless of vehicle. Oil change & starter motor would be 45mins, and another 15 to check and top up all fluids and test drive. To get the car up on jack stands, pull the front wheels off, remove the struts, compress the coils, swap the top-hats over (assuming the top strut nut hasn't seized), remove the compressors, reinstall struts & wheels, and finally test drive to ensure it's all good, would take around 1.5-2hrs. So $400 (depending on their labour rate) is a little hefty, but not unrealistic.

As for increase in fuel consumption, this can also be caused by a dirty MAF sensor (non-mivec only of course). A can of CRC MAF/MASS cleaner from repco or supercrap will do the trick. ;)
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

I can never understand the idea of calculating the litre used per 100km. I always use the 'how many kms from a full tank' method for city and highway :)

Because it is more accurate, and you're not going to fill up the exact same amount each tank.
