Soon to be FTO owner!

Post by kezche »

Hey guys, I'm Kira from Melbourne, about to buy a 95 FTO gpx manual
3 months into having my license and 3rd cars a charm with finally getting the car I always had my eye on!

I just wanted to know if anyones ever had any bad experiences with them or any common issues
I'm also finding it very hard to find any information on them as they're so rare, such as fuel consumption etc

I'm going to the mechanics on Tuesday with the owner before I purchase the car cos there is a very slight noise coming from the engine, sounds a little rough

Hope all is well!

Not to discourage you but there are a few issues with them as they age on. However, plenty of helpful people in this forum that can generally point you in the right direction when it comes to fixing things.

I would guess you can hear the tappets, they can be adjusted.
If you look around the forum you will find heaps of info on FTO's.
You will find most common problems in the "help" section.
They are a fun car to work on, if you like to DIY.
They are an awesome car to drive too 8)

WTTC and good luck with your purchase

My site may help you as well:
As for the noise, can you is it a constant ticking noise while the engine is running. If so, it is what phil is talking about. If not, well need more information.

As for fuel consumption, its a 60L tank and you can expect to get between 550 and 650 km on a tank if your car is tuned properly and you drive it reasonably conseratively.

Hey WTTC that's a nice looking ride you're gonna get there :) Any little repairs or up keep you have to put into an FTO become totally worth it when you drive it and feel that MIVEC kick in and hear it growl :) If you have any questions about anything there's plenty of guys here who could name every part of an FTO front to back so feel free to ask.. Good luck at the mechanic :)
