hey guys,

my names adam im 17 year old from melbourne and a newbie, i just bought a fto this week and got a few questions more about like exhausts and kits though.

first question is what the best exhaust people here have found to put on a fto?
and where can i get a kit in melbourne is there a lot of other kits besides the veilside kit?

also whats the largest size rims i can have i heard u can only go 2" bigger then the stock sized rims

im a newbie so dont hold it against me if i ask a dumb question.

cheers

since its N/A go with no larger then 2.5 pref 2.25 inch.
since your in melbourne and not far from nsw see what 'dstocks' can hit u up with,
rims would also depend on tyre size? i got 17's with average tyres and im only just clearing it
seeing as your 17 i presume this is your first car, enjoy it but i wouldnt recommend putting a lot of money into it, not only will it depreciate in value but you have a higher chance of getting into an accident/or even minor scrapes nd what not due to inexperience (sorry to be judgemental, but thats how i see it)
anyway wttc and im the boys here can help you out with anything further

:)

3.5"
How does that work out?
I would expect it to lose power.

To be honest I think 2.5" is the right size. 2.25" is too small

yeah was thinkin 2.5 cause 2.25 for normal 4 cyl 1.8 etc wouldnt go past 2.5 unless forced inducted

my mates go 2.25 on his sp20 and omg it sounds so sexy! sounds like a wrexy on start up haha has that growl
i also agree not spending a lot on your car, youre 17 haha same age when i got mine. im not sure if the cops are the same in melbourne but i say not to make your car scream "look at me" it gets tiring getting pulled over and what not when they see you have p plates lol.

thanks for the replys fellas,
the car already has rims on it the 17" but dont look that good well they look ok and it also has a exhaust on it but sounds rather sh*t, but i think ill leave the car as is for a few months and learn plenty about it and read on here and thanks for the hook up with the dstocks guy.

do most of u have 2.5?

Its a HKS Super Drager system but the 3.5" turbo exhaust, not the NA one - not sure if the previous owner intended to get it or accidently got it instead of the NA one - either way im not complaining as as far as i can tell it doesnt suck any power if anything it feels like it gives it, and sounds dead sexy
Obviously this is overkill for a newbie to think about so carry on with the original thread

3.5" is over kill for a 2L NA FTO or any car.
2.5" will be fine, I still run a 2.25" and get good power and sound.
As for kits, check out the GB area at Dstocks ones they look good and are at a good price too.

Rims well it comes down to what you like.

Oh and WTTC :D .

3.5 is even too big for a turbo lol.

<-- 2.5L on 18 pound running 3 inch

I'll personally will not go over 2.25" for a small NA engine. Lost back pressure on the low end when i had 3" system(came with the car).
Reverted to standard system with removed resonator. Lots of treble, in a good way.

WTTC :)

Well it was on there when i bought the car, and didnt thought it was quite huge myself, got out the trusty tape measure and looked up what sizes the system came in which was a 2.5" NA version and 3.5" Turbo system.
Why he put it on i dont know, all i know is i get very little loss on low end but have a very nice top end to compensate, plus that orgasmic sound

Im starting to think that if its just the catback to the tip being larger than 2.5", it will still be fine, since the Y pipe and the cat are around 2.5" anyway...

adzski , for exhaust, just get a simple dual exit(similar to stock) high flow muffler. Cannons are way overplayed - and thats coming from me, a cannon exhaust owner

For wheels i have 18" 235width 40profiling
I only get a little bit of rub when i full lock right.

Exhaust quad tip looks sexy.

:) WTTC

Forgot about that

And yes, 18" looks pretty good... 19 seems to look to big, makes the car look small...

Cops are the worst in Melb. It is the place to be defected. So what ever size you decide, make sure you are under the limit for db's.

With rims, if you go 18" u will need to get engineer certificate. Personally, I think 17" is the way to go. And try to get a rim that is relatively light..

I believe the stock exhaust is only 1-2 db below legal limit.. could be wrong though! :P
