How does it go?

A couple of years ago I wanted a FWD RC car and was tossing up between the FF01, FF02 or the M-03, and opted in the end for an FF01 with a DC5R shell. It has an EZ-Run 6.5T sensored brushless motor in it now

Ha. It goes ok, still got the old school brushed motor in it, but it is a 21 turn Trinity motor, so it goes hard.

It was just a cock to try & control as a front wheeler, so I turned it into a rear wheeler. The front & rear chassis section are almost identical, so you can chuck the motor section on the back & swap the steering kit onto the front & use a custom steering arm from the servo.

Went to bolt the manifold back on today, only to find another three stripped threads in the lower section of the manifold that it bolts to

That will now be 3 more helicoils I have to put into the lower section, bringing the total to 7... which is ALL of them

Never again will a heavy handed apprentice touch my car. This is the gift that just keeps on giving, finding f**king problems from when it was originally built 4 years ago.

You let an apprentice work on your car?

I was told no apprentices were working on it when it was in the shop being built, but lets face it, when it needs a plug change on the dyno, cause they fouled them, do you think the head mechanic is gonna do that? Hardly...

Yeah, drill out, tap, wind helicoil insert in. Not hard, bit time consuming though.

Thanks guys.
And since that coil/spring is in there, can it not come out when you unscrew the bolt?

Well she all bolted back together & started fine. Haven't had much a of a chance to go for a drive as I've got other parts of the car apart.
spetz wrote:And since that coil/spring is in there, can it not come out when you unscrew the bolt?
It's slightly over size compared to the hole, so its sort of 'in compression' you might say & doesn't move.

Bypassed the A/C for the moment :)

6PK940 belt with a minor adjustment to the idler pulley mount to make work.
