Something like that should be out in the open so all can see it not hidden away in a box  .

Perspex case?

Bennoz do you think it would be hard to retrofit something like a DC5R gearbox onto the FTO motor?

I agree with Aza.

Bennoz, as Simon also suggested in a slightly different way, Can you make your gearbox case from perspex? :asshat:

Well the DC5R box won't be good for you, but what about the people who remain NA?
Do you think it is possible to use the Honda box?

Why?? Whats wrong with mitsubishi boxes?

No, I dont reckon you'd have a bulls roar of a chance with the Honda box. You'd have to completely redo the housing I'd imagine. Super expensive!

I think a main reason why K20A cars are so fast is due to the gearbox.
6th gear in them is shorter than 5th in our 5 speed. Each upshift only drops about 2,000rpm per gear

You don't need to change the box just the gears in the box.

The gears are already suited to keep the engine in mivec range when you change them..you never drop below 6 grand anyway when you change at 8

The only thing it could do with is a longer first imo..cos then you could rev it up higher before dropping the clutch at the drags and it would last a bit longer

Changing the gear ratios would result in really high rpm in 5th.
Also 1st to 2nd is horrible.

I already have a 4.625 FD + taller 1st + shorter 2-4th, but the Honda 6 speed has perfect ratios...

Does the final drive and gears from an Evo box fit the FTO box?

The thing with turbo motors though is the torque is so immense and flat that the ratios make less of an impact than an NA motor.
Ignoring lag, I think it would be faster to have longer ratios + more boost as you would lose more time/speed when changing gears

So glad I spent all that money on the red coating, you can really see it

Haven't gone for much more than a few laps of the block at this stage, so can't really give a detailed review yet.
I can say that it behaves like quite the gentleman when slow speed manouvering, no more clunking & neck snapping clutch plate chatter.
It drives just like a normal full slip diff. The only chance I had to punch it was down Sunnyholt road breifly & its just like it used to, it left
2 thick black tracks all the way down to my turn off

In going to go easy on it till next Tuesday when I'll do an oil change on the box. Call me paranoid, but because it was a ground up rebuild
including clusters & syncros, I want to bed it in a bit first.

Then, come Wednesday next week I might throw her down the strip at Eastern Creek before a full blown run at Wakfield on Thursday
