Been thinking about purchasing and installin a short shifter for awhile now, but before i do, i wanted to know if it is worth it or is it just another thing which would really come into use during certain times? Is it productive? Is it cool for daily driving?

if you decide to get one then i highly recomend getting it as a part of the RPW group buy.that is currently in progress.

i have ordered a rally spec short shift kit which is a simple bolt in job.

i can't wait to get it, should be so much more fun to drive.

They didn't really do it for me.

I'm the first to admit I didn't give any time to get used to it - sure i'd be very happy if i'd stuck with it and learnt how to use it propperly, but would rather spend the cash on some extractors.

I just enjoy the standard throw... seems right for crusing somehow. I'm not after that point something of a second on each gear change.

sadly, I've never driven a manual FTO .. so I'm not sure how responsive the stocko one is, but i reckon I'd get a SS kit anyways .. driven a couple of other cars with short shift gears & it is soo much better .. almost like driving a tiptronic with a clutch IMO

I've got a C's quickshifter. Love it. Stock throw feels like a cocktail frankfurt in a bowl of mash compared.

Not bad those C's short shifters...i got one in the rolla, a bit notchy though!

Regarding the fto box...i actually liked it... throw was matched to the clutch travel length if you pushed all the way down and the feel was pretty decent i reckon. I've driven a few cars and still have the fto shifter overall experience ranked as top.

Anyways, an SS would make it pretty good i'd be willing to bet.

To be honest I reckon the FTOs have a fairly short throw compared to a lot of cars I've driven. But my gf's old one had a short shifter and it was really fun to drive

Did the short shifter get rid of the notchyness on anyones?

Takes me almost a full second to change gears

Mine was notchy for a while, but once it beds in, its fine. They usually come with all new nylon cups that slot into the selector cables, thats what needs bedding in.

Did that mirage shifter ever end up working? or would a complete mirage shifter conversion be needed?
I'm not particularly fond of modding my current shifter bush mechanic style

And before you say it C's shifters are impossible to find and rpw is a rip off.

C's no longer make them, hence the difficulty locating them.

I actually hand made one, it's sitting in my garage, not had a chance to test it. Cut & welded up an existing shifter & got a bunch of 10mm spacers to bolt the assembly too.
