I did have a bit of a look at Civic's, but people seem to want to hold onto them.

is that 14c nationally, and across all the companies?

On my FTO i was getting 450KM-500 off a tank of 98... depending on how i drove usually 450... i spent probs 60-80$ a week on petrol for those 450-500km so its quite fuel efficient. It was only like 10$ more for my FTO than it was for my civic... (but then again my civic was a carby...) and my celica drank almost the same amount of fuel as well...

Yeah, a full tank at 1.65 p litre (given that standard sometimes gets up to 1.50) is about $100. But there's no way I'll be running a fulll tank every week, unless I go joyriding every Saturday, haha.

Its accross all companies in QLD. Probably the rest too, not sure.

You dont have to fill it max every time? I just pop $40 a week- week and half.

I drive to work 5 days a week and to tafe 3 days a week and random driving.

Yeah, I doubt I'll need to fill it up very often. I catch a bus to uni (and even then, I only have two contact days). And since I haven't moved out yet, I'll more likely than not find a place that's certainly less than 15-20 minutes from where I work.

But you're right, the difference in actual money spent is more minimal than I thought.
And given that most people seem to think passenger and boot space is alright, I guess it's only really the parts which will be a bit of a sticking point.

Boot space is great for a sports car.
Passenger room is fine unless you have big footballer like mates... then that could be an issue..
And parts are easy to get from Dstocks (the parts guy here i dont know how many parts i bought off him for my FTO)

'Nother question. Are there any substantial differences between the auto and the manual? Reliability/parts/expense wise? I wouldn't mind learning manual (especially as it broadens my possibilities, there aren't many auto FTO's in SA).

There's my holiday project, haha. I'm trying to remember what manual cars my last driving instructor had.. will it be much to adjust to? and given that I'll be fairly new at driving manuals?

Once you learn to shift without thinking about it, it's fairly easy, just rev a bit and let the clutch off slowly not too fast or you'll clunk, and for hill starts just ripup the handbrake and do the same thing once you feel the handbrake slack a bit put it down and off you go

I think it was first gear which frustrated me. I started learning ages ago in a Corolla, and I was doing alright and driving around town not stalling it often. but then I didn't practice for a few months, got in my dad's Civic and stalled it in the driveway.

But practice makes perfect as they say!

First gear is just for starting as soon as you get to about 2-3 thousand revs just go into second

I think it was just taking off actually. But I'll see if my coordination is any better these days.
