Re: Exhaust Mod
and yes you should be using metal gaskets which can be sourced from any exhaust shop.

Re: Exhaust Mod
dont worry simon, im sure the next 11 pages will be post discussion of this.
EDIT: sorry simon, just being a perfectionist about these things, this is my car and i want to do the best thing so i won't have to deal with crappy crap crap later on. Especially when i know there is something thats best to be done, or at least good enough.

Re: Exhaust Mod
Ok, i just found out the gaskets that came with the hurricanes feel papery, now is that good enough? or do i absolutely need the metal gasket? and can someone guide me to installing it ? me and olly has never done that before and there might be things we have to know before attempting this.

Re: Exhaust Mod
thats right
1. undo original why pipe from cat and both headers not forgeting to remove o2 sensor
2. you may find it easier to remove radiator manifold, throttle body and lower gearbox crossmember for extra room to get to bolts
3. undo original header nuts (they are actually a fixed stud with a nut from block) from block
4. bolt up new ones with new gaskets and replace o2 sensor
job done
You will find some of them to be tight hence the reason to remove other bits for room and leverage

Re: Exhaust Mod
@vipfto, does the radiator manifold, throttle body and lower gearbox crossmember absolutely have to be removed ? is that a hassle ? or can the bolts be removed with those on?
On a side note, I was also told by the guy from liverpool exhaust that the O2 sensor does not have to be replaced every 80,000(i was asking since I'm now at 90000) and that O2 sensors only crap out from overheating or other reasons i forgot so maybe i can just put the original O2 sensor in there and if there are problems, I'm sure it won't be hard later on.

Re: Exhaust Mod
The O2 sensor is a small job to change out later so it's not a problem if you reuse the old one.

Re: Exhaust Mod
*cringes*
It would be really advantageous to do this on a hoist... its a shitload of hours on your back if you don't....

Re: Exhaust Mod
i see. might as well get it done pro if the price is right, after all, i would not want to risk exhaust leaks too.

Re: Exhaust Mod
I really wouldn't consider leaks a risk, the risk I see is some poor bloke like myself stuck under the car for 6 hoursGholdwayne wrote:i see. might as well get it done pro if the price is right, after all, i would not want to risk exhaust leaks too.
You not got any mechanic mates that you can borrow a hoist for a few hours?

Re: Exhaust Mod
not really. wow i didn't know changing extractors can take hours! vipfto made it sound so easy! but yeah the system is header paint coated and ready to go.. if getting it pro installed will cost me around the $100 mark, then i will have the job done.

Re: Exhaust Mod
the hard part of it is getting the nuts undone as they have been on there for some years now and would have locked on tight.
Ok now a question from me
with the extractors is it better to get the pipes as long as you can for better power gain?
as I am thinking about getting some made up so they join in just befor the cat, I have to look into if they will fit as well lol.
it may be bad for the low end power so I may have to rethink it. OH and I think space may come into it as well

Re: Exhaust Mod
its more about flow aza
the smoother the merging the better the flow which in turn usually results in longer pipes
actually stock headers are not too bad its more the why pipe that is very restrictive
and yip that should result in more high end power
