how long in your view can a FTO last?

Yeah mine's approaching the 330000km mark but I did cheat and swapped the engine out for a 36000 km engine at about 260000km. Saying that though my first engine got a decent workout during my early 20's and the engine was still running decent at the time.....it was just cheaper for me to put in a new engine instead of replacing all the engine oil seals at the time from f*ckwit mechanics overfilling the engine with oil.

Like everyone's saying, it really depends on your driving style and how well you maintain your car. Just do your research on here and you'll know which parts to maintain more and keep an eye on.....eg. torque converter, stepper motor, input/output speed sensors and where to get the parts cheap *coughs Dwayne*

Wow thats interesting. .how much did you spend to change your engine? And what engine would suit the fto?

At the time I think it was roughly $1000 in labour. But I've done it myself since then and realistically mechanics charge roughly $100 an hour it shouldn't really take more than 10 hours labour all up to pull out and put back in coz it's a fairly straightforward process:

- Remove bonnet
- Drop crossmember and transmission
- Disconnect sensors and hoses
- Unbolt mounts and raise engine
- Same thing in reverse to put in new engine

To fit a different type of engine would cost much more.

oh i see, but wouldn't it be difficult nowadays to find a fto engine with low KM's like his at 36000km?

Yes, it would. You can get lucky and get ones with 100,000 or so kms on them.

Or if you have the budget there are ones from the UK and Japan with 50,000kms
