Toyota Camry altise vs Hyundai Sonata
hello guys.. here's some interesting figures which i noticed about when reading RACV royal auto magazine.
there's a comparison between a toyota camry and hyundai sonata, both being a 4-cyl 2.4L engine car with very similar exterior and interior features...
what draws my attention is as below:
hyundai sonata / toyota camry
engine : 2359cc / 2362cc
engine type : both 4cyl DOHC &WT
max power : 118.5kW @ 5800 / 117kW@5700
max torque : 219Nm@4250 / 218Nm@4000
kerb mass : 1478kg / 1500kg
tyres : both 215/60 R16
0-60 : 4.9 / 4.6
0-80 : 7.8 / 7.2
0-100 : 11.3 / 10.6
50-80 : 4.7 / 4.6
60-100 : 7.1 / 7.0
0-400m : 17.9 / 17.5
so what's special in these figures? well i find it interesting that when compare with kerb mass, hyundai is lighter than camry. compare with power and torque, hyundai is little bit more than camry. however when compare with performance, camry appears to be faster...
hmmm, so... as a conclusion, what's the significant of a dyno result? as a heavier car with a lower power and lower torque can actually go faster than a lighter car with a higher power and higher torque? and also since they're very similar in engine capacity and also they are using the same tyre size...
any comment on this??
by the way... i am no longer a "newbie" lol

Have you check their gear ratio?

The Camry looks similar to the IS250, since they are both by design by the same company, but the Sonata looks like a rip off version of Honda Accord and Euro Accord combine.
If i have to choose one (thats a big if), i take the Camry any day, at least the resell value won't drop on its ass like the Sonata.

true, and the much cheaper maintainance fees as well..
the parts for hyundai is like 2-3 times as toyota ones...
by the way, not only the hyundai looks like copying a honda euro, but i find that toyota camry looks a bit like mazda 6 as well... dont you think so? first look at it, without looking at the logo?

Mazda6 MPS is way too heavy. Worst, the RAW figure is almost the same as an N/A Commodore SV6, as a turbo AWD, its very disappointed.
