SchumieFans "Vixen" the VRX
So...
as you are or arent aware the SX4 burned me for the last time last week...
the pulley for the alternator spat the dummy and took the alternator with it.
The Mrs was stranded in the inside lane of a 3 lane road near moore park and was forced to abandon it...
so after:
-the rim destroying itself on day 6
-the steering rack packing up at 6 months
-being sandwiched in george st at 1 year
-the air con compressor breaking at 1.5 years
- blown motor at 3 years
-busted alternator at 4 years
-various bits busted (interior, wheels, recalls)
i got it back from the dealer on tuesday (yesterday) and traded it the same day for a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer VRX...
its got 3 years left on the warranty so all happy there!
the stats:
Name: Vixen
2.4L (4B12) constantly Variable MIVEC (stated 125kw/170hp more like 110kw/135hp)
5 speed manual
VRX bodykit
VRX Rear wing
Uprated suspension
factory strut brace
18 inch stockies
16 inch brakes (with twin pot callys)
TCL/BAS/ASC
crazy in car computer that controls everything!
Leather all except seats (which is good cause i dont like leather seats!)
climate control
cruise control
Voice activated bluetooth
Auto wipers (which are awesome)
Auto lights
Keyless entry
keyless start
6 cd in dash Rockford Fosgate stereo
and just to piss me off my olds bought a brand new sportback back home in NZ, has everything mine has except the uprated suspension, only has 16 inch alloys and only the 2L engine... grrrrr my uncle has a 09 lancer Aspire and my sisters got a 96 Lancer that shes planning on trading soon... crazy lancer family... anyway
Plans:
nothing huge... and nothing soon...
The stock intake is the typical Mitsubishi after-thought... see pics
so maybe an upgrade there,
catback and an ecu flash and leave it be i think (dont really wanna push my luck!)
when we went on the kangaroo run(the one where aza spun ), a bloke from MCA had an identical car to what i have now who had the ecu flash and said it was great, and its been dyno's as giving it an extra 30 horsies... hopeing for about 185hp at the end... its more than enough for me at the moment anyway.
the engine is amazing, you can be crawling in traffic in 3rd and put your foot down and get a kick in the arse, the CV-Mivec keeps you always in the powerband... EPIC!

Re: SchumieFans "Vixen" the VRX
Thanks guys... its AMAZING... these things push $40K new so happy to get this one at a good price... just dont get the intake...
its a big U shape!
i guess its to stabilize the airflow?
in anycase, its got a front airdam for the engine and side airdams for the brakes, so i dont wanna mess around with the airflow too much

Stunning.
Air dam can also trap water on monsoon driving.By any chance is there enough room to widen the U shaped intake by a coupe CM?
Seen some magnas owners bell mouthing the U shape area using a heat gun.

hmmm... ill have a look, it could happen, but im more thinking the restriction is in the turn around... it just seems a bit backward...BearOnFire wrote:Stunning.

edit:
there is also a vent on the underside of the intake next to the housing for the filter to prevent hydro-lock... though it has been criticized for drawing in heat from the enginebay

Some manufacturer deliberately do it to aid the health of the engine in the long run.More air, more particles.
Pretty sure Mitsubishi got it right in the first place. Easy to go backwards with high tech engines.
She's cute in then first place, leave her as she is.
ecu?

I only posted it up as it was in the list when I did a google search on the engine. I have to say that it sounds like a good engine to have and for mods too.
